Bollocks to him and the club for inserting such a shitty clause in a contract you couldn't wait to announce back in January. What a crappy way of treating the fans of this club.

Lerner, Fox and co really need to pull their finger out and give us something to shout about considering the shit they've put us through over the last 5 years. How about showing some ambition in the transfer market for a change.

Another crap day at Aston Villa.

I've seen some people talking about the team losing its spine (Vlar / Delph / Benteke).

I'd argue that the team never had a spine in the first place.

Benteke (when motivated) will be a big loss, but we are getting above the market value for him. The other two are no loss (Vlar) & flatters to deceive (Delph). Delph is not now & never will be a top 4 / Champions League footballer. If Man City want to close the gap on Chelsea, they'll need better than Delph.

It's an easy soundbite to make and I guess I will be back again when the dust settles but as far as I am concerned this has totally and utterly made me disillusioned about football.  It really is just getting worse and worse.  I just cannot explain how deflated I feel at this moment.

Like it's been said, if that's the clause the agent and player wanted inserted then it's better than nothing. We could have insisted on £15-£20m but they might not have wanted it. He was 5 months away from going on a free so at least we can go out and replace him.

That's all well and good, but those 3 players were probably our best players despite the limitations you've spelt out. In other words the ones left behind are even worse!

Strictly speaking Delph is a top four footballer now if he signs for Man City.

I can't see how Delph and Benteke leaving can be anything but a gigantic setback. The Delph thing especially makes me wonder what potential targets will think of the club.

We had a massive amount of work to do in the market already, if those two fuck off, it'll be even bigger.

Don't give one tenth of one single shit about Vlaar, though.

I will say it again, we can spin it all we want, but if people are suggesting we never had a spine in the team before, then these two players leaving will make it a permanently broken back.  This is very bad for our club.

Delph leaving is very sad.   Benteke leaving is also very sad but for me these episodes are no more than the inevitable aftershocks of a truly awful season and an even more awful cup final.

When the final whistle put us out of our misery at Wembley I had the overwhelming feeling of a curtain coming down on everything that has happened since the departure of Martin O'Neill.   The slate has to be wiped clean.   The mighty oak that was Aston Villa keeled over and died.   A new young tree has to be planted and tended.   Without Benteke and Delph we are not going to grow much next season but what growth there is will be strong and healthy.  All we can do is keep the faith and hope that those who run and manage the club have learned from the blows we the fans have had to suffer over the last five years.

My sentiments... we could have lost him for nothing, £8m to me sounds better than sweet FA (cup)!!

Wise words, Brian but right now I have no interest in the coming season.

Saying that, if anybody has a link to the game today I'll be enternally grateful.
