I guess it has something to do with the takeover not happening. I'd imagine he had been promised some more dosh. His agent would have been keeping options open until our new owner delivered on such a promise.
Pure speculation of course,  but this sort of volte face is pretty bleeding unusual.

That said, the insistence of the £8 million release clause sticks in the craw a bit.  Unless he told City he wanted an £10 million signing on fee but has it paid to us.  How would people feel if he did something like that?

Why on earth would Delph give £10m to Villa?

I don't think he will, I just don't think he is the complete arsehole being discussed here.  And I am not sure the statements make him worthy of more hate than others who have left, they just make him look a bit more stupid (and he deserves some anger from Sherwood, Wilkins, Westwood et al).

It's all good fun really innit?  Who needs a boring summer?  I like him a lot but he scored 0 league goals last season, I bet his replacement gets at least 1.  Benteke is much more difficult to replace.  It is still more likely he will end up more like Sinclair and Rodwell than Barry once he is up there.

After seeing that video, it's now just a waiting game for the deal to be confirmed.  Nobody comes out of this with any credit.  Delph has made himself look even more ridiculous with what was said last week, and we have lost the spine of our side.

I don't see anything other than relegation next season.

I honestly think he has superseded Mr Hodge.

Best not bring him to VP then.. not that he'd be in the first team anyway.

Delph u turn / Benteke likely to be off / Takeover off
To be honest I'm not at all surprised by all three and am looking forward to seeing how Sherwood gets into his first proper season, who he buys with the money, watching the rebirth of Richards, the emergence of Clarke, Gil, Sinclair and Grealish, how Idrissa Gueye plays....oh and the yellow away kit...
This is Villa (said in a sparta voice)..

I say again, it stems from him just changing his mind after weeks of agonising.

I suppose I will be alone in hating him less for his statements of loyalty.  I think he meant them, he must have done really - otherwise you risk looking as stupid as he does today.  I think he was genuinely torn and wanted to do the right thing by us, but ultimately has decided it's a short career and he only gets one crack at it.  All the statements tell me that here is a bloke who didn't jump the first time money was waved in front of him, he had doubts, he felt the pull of 'loyalty'. It can't be easy having your next career decision attached to so much emotion from so many thousands of people.  I think this will have been a very difficult decision for him and I would guess that as and when this is confirmed, we will end up with an open letter or public statement from him to us, which everyone will wipe their arse on.

Oh, spare us the bleeding hearts nonsense! He pledged himself to the club in a statement only last week, when he didn't have to say anything at all. "He felt the pull of 'loyalty'", my arse!

Rubbish, you really think he has just been chuckling along, making statements saying he is staying, then buggering off the next week without some level of agonising?  I doubt he has found the decision easy.  He is leaving, like anyone else.  I think there are bigger twats in the football.  He has just made himself look a bit stupid by indecisiveness I reckon.

Good lad, first in with a rally.

I'll add to it.

It's just a real shame.  It's the kids that believe in these mercenaries and them that get let down.  We all know better, but it leaves a sour taste none the less.
