Spoke to Lisa Smith just and she said he's left because he was assured Benteke was staying. So he's reneged.....

Maybe so, just going by what she said. Its a crap excuse anyway lets face it.

And he seriously believed the club could guarantee him that Benteke was staying? He must think we are all total f*****g mugs.

exactly

I'd imagine if he IS going (not seen the pic - any links?) then it's down to the sale breakdown or no more money being spent....he will suggest he was lied to by the club. That's my guess.

If so, I might not blame him :/

I say again, it stems from him just changing his mind after weeks of agonising.

I suppose I will be alone in hating him less for his statements of loyalty.  I think he meant them, he must have done really - otherwise you risk looking as stupid as he does today.  I think he was genuinely torn and wanted to do the right thing by us, but ultimately has decided it's a short career and he only gets one crack at it.  All the statements tell me that here is a bloke who didn't jump the first time money was waved in front of him, he had doubts, he felt the pull of 'loyalty'. It can't be easy having your next career decision attached to so much emotion from so many thousands of people.  I think this will have been a very difficult decision for him and I would guess that as and when this is confirmed, we will end up with an open letter or public statement from him to us, which everyone will wipe their arse on.

That said, the insistence of the £8 million release clause sticks in the craw a bit.  Unless he told City he wanted an £10 million signing on fee but has it paid to us.  How would people feel if he did something like that?

The club have fed him something to make him stay initially.  He didn't reject an extra £50k a week out of his love for the club that's fior sure.  He must have been given assurances that didn't materialise.

Sky Sports News have just confirmed it. Shown him leaving the medical and walking into a car.
If he's walked into a car his eyesight must be shit so good job he's leaving.

Complete ******! Football never ceases to amaze me.
Usually for terrible reasons too. Hope he rots and never plays for England again.
I do not envy him returning to VP when we play those plastic bastards. Fuming beyond fuming.

On another note: if you were signing him, early he has zero integrity with how he has behaved. Zero. Sub human wanker

Why on earth would Delph give £10m to Villa?

Assured Benteke would stay?! Ha!

Only a complete ass would believe he was staying on.

Support the club, not the players. The days of players genuinely representing the club and it's fans are long gone. They're just assets now. A few exceptions of course.

With regards to Delph; sod him. In my opinion he's not in the same league as Ian Taylor, Andy Townsend, Merson, etc. He's decent but it's not that big a loss.

Oh, spare us the bleeding hearts nonsense! He pledged himself to the club in a statement only last week, when he didn't have to say anything at all. "He felt the pull of 'loyalty'", my arse!
