I suppose he must have received assurances about playing time and so on. Expect them to turn to dust fairly sharpish. What an idiot he must be.

He will have quite possibly the most interesting of all player visits to Villa Park and I would include Robbie Savage circa March 2003 in that.

Oh dear Fabian, you silly boy.

There are ways to leave football clubs, it happens twice a year with minimal fuss.

Musing more on my theory that the hitch was a legal one.   In my very non legal mind it may have hinged on the word "relegated" blah blah blah.  Man City trigger the clause and Villa say we have not been relegated blah blah blah.  Man City come back and say "but the clause goes on to say" blah blah blah to which Villa reply "ya boo sucks" and Man City say we are going to get some expert advice.   They get the expert advice which tells them the "clause goes on to say" bit is on the money and our utterly loyal captain is legally free to fuck off.   Just a theory.

It's a real kick in the teeth if true. I still can't believe he could do something as spiteful as this.

I have not believed this for the last hour, but the BBC seem fairly categorical.  I still struggle to be fully convinced, it can't be about Benteke for starters.  Everyone knows Benteke has the release clause and it was always expected that he would leave, nothing has changed there.  No if it happens, I don't think there is any conspiracy.  I just think Delph agonised over the decision, made it, slept on it for a few nights and changed his mind.  Unfortunately while doing so he will have made the reaction one heck of a lot worse than if he just decided to leave a week ago or let his contract run down.  I don't think there would be anything sinister in what he has done beyond indecisiveness, but that is not the reaction he is going to get.

If it is true of course.  And it does all seem bizarre.

Isn't this similar to BFR when he left Sheff Wed to come to us? About a week in between?

My response to this is: even if you are right,  why would Delph once again make such gushing comments in the media about his intention to stay with us?
