Perhaps our takeover by deep pocketed owners is a lot nearer than we think. Its just a thought.

I actually never doubted he would leave.  Id like to say it was because I was clever, or knew what was going on, but put it down instead to my, to a fault, blinding optimism about my football team.  And this is why Benteke is not leaving either

City fan here. Glad Delph elected to stay, I think it's absolutely the right decision. Fantastic to see Micah Richards doing his initiation song on Sky Sports News too. Hope he stays fit and serves you well. I suspect you'll have a new owner soon with the relaxation of FFP. Could be exciting times for you next season. Best of luck !

Thanks for the support!

My take on this is that there was never any serious chance of Delph leaving I just think a paper got hold of a rumour that City had a slight interest and might make a move and tried to connect the dots that the move would happen.  Or maybe they got a bad source and just ended up with egg on their face.  I don't believe that he would suddenly decide to leave just like that just because City come calling, and I certainly believe that he would do a sharp U-Turn either.  The papers got it wrong and are trying to cover their tracks with the story that he changed his mind. He was never going to leave IMO.

As for whether he made the right call that might depend on what City do next season more than what we do.

Even though Sherwood has said that the had the choice of joining them or staying with us and he chose to stay?

That suggests a bit more than a "slight interest".

Could we have not just said "He stayed away from this trip because his wife is due their second child any moment. That's why he was always going to stay back." from the start?

I'm really not sure why there are so many conspiracy theories about what's happened with Delph. It's fairly simple - City met the release clause, agreed terms with the player, who changed his mind before undergoing a medical. If there really hadn't been a deal on the table then I'm sure we'd have heard about it from Man City by now, rather than them allow everyone to think they'd just been turned-down by a transfer target.

But at the time of going to Portugal it's very probable that Man City had met his release clause, so the likelihood of it was that he would be leaving. Whichever way the club played it from a PR point-of-view they would have have come in for criticism.

But a club like City probably have a lot of different players they are interested in.  I'm not even going to question that they triggered the release clause, or I'm saying that in my opinion Delph was never going to join them, but it just makes for more dramatic reading if its reported that he was and then changed his mind.

Pretty sure our interest was genuine but how far it got no-one is really saying. From everything I have read on the City forums, we were expecting him to come for a medical but he changed his mind. No problem with that, we've had so many "City snubbed" headlines over the years another one wouldn't make a difference. Seems he simply preferred to stay with you which seems entirely reasonable to me. City, in common with most clubs I think, don't comment on any proposed transfers. Everything you see in the press is hack speculation, or put there by agents trying to rustle up an auction for their players or the selling club trying to do the same as in the case of Sterling and Liverpool. It's a double bind of course, if you deny every false rumour, as soon as you don't deny it, the press would know exactly who you were after.

I'm worried they'll come back with a bigger bid.

The only quotes I've heard are Sherwood saying 'he had the opportunity to join Man City but decided to stay with us' and Westwood saying 'we were in contact with him and knew he was staying'.

I don't see why that's so difficult to take at face value. I certainly won't be relying on the press for the truth.

The club shop were even instructed to remove pictures and his stuff from the walls,
and that came from a poster who was in the shop when the news broke,
so they definitely thought he was gone

Rumours of Delph's transfer were a CIA plot to distract us from the real truth: Jews are putting flouride in vaccines for the new world order.

Wake up sheeple!!
