I'd love to know what re-signing fee he got when he signed his new long term contract.

And, given its release clause that's allowing him to escape, will he get a signing on fee at CiŁy.

It must be fucking brilliant to be a footballer !

The club actively participated in the supporters being totally misled. This is a very serious breach of trust by the club in my opinion. I am angrier with them than I am with the player.

What a lying, duplicitous toe rag.  Fuck him, and the horse he rode in on.  I hope he rots in their stiffs.

I agree Risso. I'm hugely drunk and it's 3am here in Tokyo, but this news has ruined my evening. I've just got home and woken my girlfriend up with a massive rant. Terrible news. What a fucker

Lying Judas ******. Thought you had a bit more class than most footballers these days, should've known better.

Hope you miss out on the Euro's next year due to lack of games.

He should've just left on a free for all I care.

It was the board's ineptitude that meant his deal ran so close to going out.

Let's say we offered him a 4 year deal at any point in 2013, I'm sure he'd have signed it no problem and with two years left we could've demanded a much higher fee say 15m which I doubt Man. City wouldn't have paid.

Poor show all round.

So what's he looking at then? Half a dozen games a season before being loaned out to Stoke? What a shit career that will end up

At 10 to 3 on 25th Jan I stood in the Lower Holte with my elder son and went mad at what a small time club we'd become in making such a hoo-hah of a player signing a new contract. I got a few funny looks from people around me but, less than six months later, it looks as though I've been proven right, which gives me no satisfaction at all.

F**k off Delph, you stumpy legged c**t.

Another kick in the teeth for Villa fans.
What I find amazing is that there he was right at the front of the kit launch poster just 2 days ago when they knew full well he was plotting his move away from the club.
Absolutely pathetic from Villa yet again.

Freshly signed contract with an 8m release clause, which frankly was only ever going to mean one thing, and not only do they get him to do this, he does, he says he's proving there is still loyalty in the game, and they show it on the big screens prior to the match.

With an 8m release clause, you don't really have to be a genius to see why they might have opted to underplay this one, not shout it from the rooftops.

This wouldn't have happened on Faulkner's watch.

This is massively shit.

God damn you Aston Villa, not content with ruining every weekend for nine months you now carry it over into the summer too.

Fuck off.

This has obviously been on the cards for a few days and leak coincides with the signing of his replacement. As soon as a striker comes in expect Benteke to be gone.

I feel let down by both Delph and the club. We were lied to.

Obviously the boost was needed in January - but to dress it up like that - knowing the clause. Just keep quiet.

It won't mean anything to him, he's furthering his career and I don't wish him any ill future really; but right now, he can get fucked.

Hopefully it'll see an end to our not being very good at getting our better players to sign contracts on time.
