SSN reporting a report from the Daily Star that Delph is included in a £191m spending spree at Man City...it would seem in the media that the clubs and players actually receiving offers or agreeing to these deals appear to be surplus to requirements to qualify to be considered as actual news.

In other actual news...I might consider cutting my lawn today, however this is purely speculation at this stage.

''The fans have stuck by since day one. The chairman's stuck by me, he's been unbelievable with me. The gaffer's been great as well.
'I'm proving that there still is loyalty in football. I've decided to stay here and I'll give nothing less than 100 per cent every game.
'I'd love you guys to get behind us and support the boys.'
Speaking to Villa's official website, he added: 'The club has given me a great platform to perform and a great opportunity to showcase what I can do.
'The fans have been great with me, the chairman has been absolutely fantastic with me and I have a great relationship with the manager and I see the boys here as my brothers, my family and I am delighted to stay here.
'I am a loyal person and committing my future will hopefully show everybody what type of guy I am.
'I feel like this is me - I love the club, I love being here and I want to put 100 per cent into everything I do here. This is my club and I want to be here. That's why I am committing my future.
'Hopefully it will give everyone a bit of a lift and show the fans that we are looking to do big things here and bring excitement back to the club.
'We want to get through this season, do well and I feel the up-and-coming years will be big. There was no way I was going to bail out. I am here for the long run.
'The fans have been the same. I am sure they will stick with us, help us get through this season and then looking into the future, it looks promising to me.'

Odd to say all this, knowing you've got a ridiculously low release clause that will almost certainly be activated within 3 or 4 months of these comments.

Powerful stuff; thanks for posting as a reminder.
Do you genuinely that - given this - he will "almost certainly" leave? Now that we have avoided relegation, I think he may well give it another season, to see how things pan out. There may well be more money for him if we get taken over, and - like Benteke - Villa gives him a place to play regular football before the Euros.

You need to show a reasonable amount of loyalty to the current grass. After all it has stood by you for few weeks. That has to be valued and respected rather than tossed away in the green bin. If you do decide to go ahead I think you need to consider mulching rather than collection. It is the new trend.

Sadly I think he will go. This story ahs been out there for about a week now, and there's be no denial from the club or the player. Unfortunately, due to the state of English football at the moment, you dont have to play regularly to get in the England squad if yo play for a big club, look at Milner.

Where's this £8M release clause come from?

I vaguely remember that when we signed him from Leeds the fee would rise to £8M if he had England call-ups etc.

Well if he does go, in future just file contract-signing homilies professing loyalty alongside badge-kissing as ultimately meaning f*ck all.

Where's this £8M release clause come from?
James Nursey broke the story apparently: linky thing

...I believe that is the only source of this "story" and has been picking up pace simply by other media outlets reporting on it to the point that he is now part of a £191m summer spending spree at City.

Thanks for the reminder of his words, I think if he was to force a sale through months after saying that it would paint him as a real twat. All that has changed since that statement is that we have a (in mine and the majority's opinion) a much better manager, we've stayed up and he has become official club captain. Which of those could he blame for his change of heart? I may well be wrong but I just don't buy it.

I'm not one for calling for the club to comment on all speculation.  But if there isn't a release clause surely it would be in everyone's interests to nip this one in the bud?

If the club were to coment on every bit of specu........bla bla, you know the rest

I stopped reading at this point, but I assume we're signing a red telephone box and putting it on the moon?

If Delph was a first choice option for Man City & as cheap as this supposed clause, surely they'd have snapped him up by now. He might be a 2nd or 3rd option if their preferred targets can't be got or a signing to bring up their British quota.

If he does end up there, he'll need to perform at a much higher level than he has done for us to get games.

I think the "British Quota" stuff for Man City is being massively overstated by a lot of the press right now.  I fully expect them to sign players because they think they'll improve the squad rather than just hoovering up 'home grown' players (which isn't the same as british anyway and includes anyone they've signed from abroad who was 18 or younger when they arrived) I think they're more likely to look towards their reserves to fill those gaps and it will be players like Stirling that they look to up those numbers as potential starters.  If they sign Delph it will be because he's a good player not because he's British.

If it does happen, I think it would be a bit of both to be honest Paul.  I can't see him being a regular in a team like that.
