After what he said, if he goes for £8m this summer it will be a huge kick in the nuts for the club and the fans however you look at it. The fanfare, the press conference, the big screen announcement etc. I just can't see how he would walk away 5 months later. Maybe after the Euros next summer he will for that fee, but at least then he will have given it a shot to help us for another 18 months. He seems to happy to be captain, his club etc. I just don't see it. IF he did go to City this summer on the back of it, it would be right up there with Downing for shitty behaviour.

Hmm. John Percy does have more credibility than nursey. £8m clearly a lot better than zilch but it is a shockingly low fee. Quite an unusual situation - can't think of a similar instance elsewhere

Don't blame villa for agreeeing to such a clause during this season's negotiation. The mistake was letting it get to six months from the end of his contract in the first place!

Hopefully delph's mindset is to see how we do next year before making a decision.

No, we have to accept an £8m bid, therefore only an idiot would offer more. That's the point of a release clause.

No, IF £8m is the release fee, that's what we get.  Clubs can then talk to Fab and the only auction going on is with him and how much they will be paying him.
I still think it's all a load of bollocks though personally and he's going nowhere.

He's not going to Man City nor anywhere else. If he wanted to leave he could have done, for nothing.

Why would he go to Man City now to sit on the bench, just as he settles into the England team.

We do need to renegotiate that contract though, if true.

There is no comparison with Downing, IMHO.
Leaving aside the issue of the timing of the negotiations with him, which we all agree should have been much earlier, the situation appears to be that Delph signed a deal to ensure that Villa would get something from his sale when it happens. He could have refused to sign any sort of contract. In this respect, I give him credit.
My concern is not with Citeh - I think he'd be mad to move there simply because of the ambiguity of his playing status (perpetual subb?). He's more likely to go to one of the Europa League sides (I can't actually remember which teams have qualified for it!).
