Personally I don't there is any chance that we won't be offering him a new deal in the next few months. It's exactly what we have done with all of our other young players. Delph has indicated he wants to stay and his performances have been superb.
I'd guess that the main difference is the circumstances. With Delph pretty much the only one left from the O'Neill era I'd bet he's on a pretty healthy contract already. Somebody suggested that Delph is the highest earner currently in the squad and even Benteke's new contract isn't as much as Delph is on.

Hopefully the money people decide that he is worth keeping on his decent whack but I don't think it'll be the same as moving Lowton and Westwood from £7k per week to £15k per week.

If his new contract offer is in line with what the rest of the squad is earning then it wouldn't surprise me if somebody like Spurs or ManYoo thought that he might be worth throwing £40k per week at.

It's an interesting one for sure. He should certainly be offered a new deal as he's been excellent this season but how attractive will the new deal offered be compared to the one he is currently on?

I was amazed when it was mentioned he was one of our highest paid players but it does make sense if you think back to when he signed. Man. City wanted him aswell so I'd imagine we'd offered him an attractive deal and he got a new one under Houlllier which bumped it up again.

I think he's pretty loyal to us to be honest, not sure why I think that but I just believe it. If we offer him a decent new deal I think he'll sign.

People said the same about Milner.

He's a footballer doing and getting paid for his job. If we offer him £25k per week and ManYoo offer him £50k per week then he'll be gone in a flash. Anybody with any sense would.

Can't see anyone above us coming in for him apart from maybe Newcastle.

I don't see why not. I wouldn't want to swap him for Cleverley, Henderson, Fletcher, Mikel, Barry or McCarthy (all of whom start regularly for clubs above us) so I daresay people at those clubs might consider him an upgrade as well.

If we are seeing how well he's doing I don't see why other people wouldn't as well.

It's an interesting point about delph's wages. Does the same thing apply with gabby too?

Delph plays under the radar for some Reason, he doesn't get mentioned or talked about much,
Thank goodness

He's the only really good midfield player we have, if he started getting the recognition he deserves especially in the England set up, it would only be a matter of time before a club with some money came in for him

If we could put a couple of decent midfielders next to him, fuck me we would have a good side
If he was to leave, it would be devastating

I doubt if the Player of the Season award has ever been won so early before. You are right about how good we would be if we beefed up the midfield. Spark some life into Weimann as well and off we go.

Last 2 Weimann hass been much more like his old self in all fairness to him. I was giving him a lot of stick!

Delph we have to keep. He said earlier this season he would sign for life or something to that effect. Give him the deal. Would cost 15m plus to replace. I love his control of a ball. It was epitomised by the way he brought down the ball last season, in the 90th minute that allowed Westwood to play the pass of the season for us to get the winner for Gabby. No one else would have killed that ball for Westwood like Delph did. With confidence I could see him getting 10 plus goals a season, and I would be sorely tempted at home to actually try him in that number 10 role behind Gabby and Benteke.

Andi just looks better playing more centrally. He filled a gap somewhat last season on the right and did okay, but he's struggled this season playing there. I think he's looked better in the last 3 games, since coming on against Arsenal. He's largely played central as a starting base and his movements been great, allowing him to drift left or right. His confidence has returned too which has also been a key factor. It would not surprise me to see our front 3 hit the same sort of form they did from last Jan onwards.

Delphy seems to have a head on his shoulders. I would hope that he realises he's in a great position here. He's one of the first names on the team sheet, every week. He's essentially had just one good year of Prem football. To leave anytime soon would be foolish to be honest, but I don't think he will. Even if a club like Utd, Cty, Arsenal etc came in for him, he'd be leaving to warm their bench (if he was lucky). I think we're the biggest club he can hope for as a first team player. I fancy him to stay for a good few years yet.

Superb today. Just watched his post match interview, and I've said this before, what a very mature and well spoken young man.
