Is international football really all it's cracked up to be? And surely it depends on the international team in question as to whether someone is international class?

Of course it's my opinion. That's why we are here.

I can't think of 8/9 better English midfielders than him. He should make the squad at least. He's playing in a very weak midfield at the moment and still managing to win those battles, on his own a lot of the time.

Scoring a wonder goal was just a small part of his performance tonight. He's played better and not scored.

You put a couple of half decent midfielders next to Delph, you'd never hear anyone ask for Milner to come back.

Milner is and was a much better player. Haven't heard anyone bidding 26m for Delph. Id love to have them both

I suspect if he played against Germany he would get shown up much Like Barry did in 2010, and I love GB

True, but does he really stand out in a struggling team? No he doesn't and thats the difference. He doesnt win games on his own because that isn't part of his game. He is more solid and dependable, which is fine in the position we are in, but not good enough at the WC

For most of the last 12 months he's regularly been our MOTM, or close to it, so playing against all these top class midfielders who are way better than him doesn't seem to cause him too many problems. Especially when the rest of our midfield is a tad on the weak side.

And he is part of that weakness. Thats my point

We'll never know unless he's given a shot. He's certainly done enough domestically to be given the opportunity, which is the be all and end all of whether you should be in the England squad. He's definitely better than some of the cack that regularly turns out for England such as Tom Cleverley.

I think Woy, who is no dud,  will cotton an that Delph has something which he might need:a player that can burst through several defenders with lightening speed and close control.  So he will be in the squad at least.

Personally, I could not a fuck for Engerlund, so I don't care either way.

Terribly unfair to him. Pirlo would look like a time waster if you shove him next to Sylla, KEA or Westwood. I don't see much of an issue with him being called up to the squad to play in a couple of pre-WC friendlies.

He can't do it all on his own. He's virtually playing on his own in MF at times.

magnificent tonight. I fully expect him to be left out of the next England squad.

He was good tonight, but not international class

I'd like someone to define international class for me. Because if you are talking about our midfield competing one on one with Spain, Brazil or Germany then we may as well stay home. If you are asking if he is good enough to get into the current England squad then that is an entirely different discussion. All he has to do is be better than other England midfielders competing for a squad position and then perform to a high level in the friendlies when selected.

I agree. Delph is the guy we need to build the midfield around. I'm convinced he'll be even better with better players around him.

Aside from giving the ball away a few times I honestly can't remember KEA doing anything today, which is pretty much a common occurance with him. Westwood was also pretty anonymous.
Delph's been superb this season and he's most certainly doing most of the work. A couple of midfield signings would transform this side. At this level, for KEA and Westwood to go missing so often in games is just not good enough. Delphy certainly doesn't go missing and that's because he's a good player.

Roy Hodgson is not going to pick Delph or Gabby. Obviously.
