There was a time when Brian Little coudn't get into the England team season after season despite consistently being a top forward in the First Division.

Pretty good team that (for a premiership side).

WTF is that squad selection about?  Surely they must have some considerations on form and appearances? Fucking joke.

How can Benteke not be in that team when he is far and away the top scorer in 2013, and does more than his fair share of the donkey work, along with a reasonable No of assists?

Because he's not English is my guess  ;)

And Delph was very good again tonight. Must be third name on the teamsheet now behind Benteke and Guzan. And hopefully the goal will be the first of many. Well 5 or 6.

Not sure I've ever been so chuffed with a Villa players improvement, over what is a decent amount of time now, including how good he was in the latter part of last season. Great goal he scored tonight as well, marvellous!

Oops. Embarrassed smiley thing.

In my defence it is 01:30 here and had an early start. Can't sleep after that third goal.

I said to Leeg, if Barca or Manure had scored that there would be a wankfest. But it was Villa and Delph so it will be ignored for the most part.

The way he took his goal tonight (with his bad foot!) reminded me of Dwight Yorke in his prime.

What a player he's becoming. I have nothing but respect for his perseverance in coming back from all of his setbacks. He always comes over as very mature and humble in interviews. He'll be well looked after by the club in his next contract and very much deserved.

His AVTV interview post game was touching. Just very grateful the fans stuck with him after 4 years of injuries and start / stop performances.

I am really pleased to see Delph maturing into his position - we are more positive when the ball is at his feet .

I will admit I am biased and have always wanted him to do well since meeting him with my Son at bodymoor. We waited outside the gates to get the players autographs and my Son said to him "can I have your autograph please Fabian ? " which he happily signed - and then Finley asked him if it would be okay to have a photograph with him .

Fabian then said to me "Is that your Son ?" And I nodded - he then said " You should be proud of him - he has got fantastic manners " then said to Finley " well done young man - you have got fantastic manners ".

This was two seasons ago - so Delph would have been 21 at the time.

He was the only player to comment - and as you can imagine it meant a lot to both Fin and me.

I thought it was a really mature comment and approach from him - and ever since have always wanted him to succeed. Long may it continue .
