I recall going to the replay at Villa Park which we won 3-2 after extra time, watched by just 13,000!

I went to the replay. It was a good game as I recall. I definitely remember an early Alan Biley goal and an Allan Evans penalty.

That was the other 3-2 home victory over them in extra time in 1983 in the League Cup (after another 2-2 at Fratton Park with another late equaliser!) so the similarities are definitely there.
Stainrod did score twice in the replay along with an Allan Evans penalty with Garry Stanley scoring twice for Pompey.

I went to the replay, one of my earliest games that I can remember, Mick Channon played for them, didn't realize there was only 13000.

Why did Kenny Swain leave the Villa just after we won the European Cup, anyone have an insight?

Love the 80s classic chant of "here we go"..our away support didnt look great in those dark days of the mid 80s..great to see birchy saving us at the end, god bless him.

14,958. A massive 12,205 in round 4 against Millwall. Better than the 7,678 who turned up to see us stick 8 past Exeter in the LC.

I was at both Portsmouth home games in 1983 and 1986. I can vividly remember the first one, it was a terrific match and they brought a lot of fans who sang the pompey chimes throughout. I have no recollections of the second game, but that is probably because I try to blot out 1986 when it comes to the Villa.

I'm not sure if Kenny was injured at the start of the 83/84 season but he only managed two games before we shipped him off to Forest. Maybe Ellis wanted him off the payroll, it wouldn't surprise me. Colin Gibson had been fighting it out with Gary Williams for the left back spot but Williams was moved over to right back.

Kenny Swain got dropped after we lost our first two games and then went to Forest on loan as Viv Anderson was injured. He did well there and Williams did well for us at right back and the deal was made permanent. It was the start of things to come though. The following year Rimmer, McNaught and Morley all went. Three years after winning the European Cup we kicked off the season with four of the Rotterdam sixteen still at the club.

I know that kit is tainted, but in time do you think it will be a classic ?

Never. Ever.

I loved that kit, I think I wore the whole thing for 14 days straight in Spain the following summer.
