Boxing Day 2013
« on: June 19, 2013, 08:45:22 PM »
We are at home to Crystal Palace. Surely this game will stay as a 3pm kick, if so it will be the first Boxing Day game at Villa Park to kick off at 3pm since 1996 when we lost to Chelsea! We have had a couple of noon kick offs v the Sky 4 but, kicking off on this particular date in daylight is pretty much a novelty to us Villa fans.

With us nearly always being paired with Spurs, Arse, Everton, Liverpool or even Man United at home for the best part of two decades we always seem to get shifted for Satellite TV, the majority of the time at 5.30 pm, so while the nation sits back in front of an open fire we freeze our bollocks off on a plastic seat. And and when we have had our arse kicked by those lovely so called bigger clubs we walk out on to the streets of Aston with a public transport system calling it an early night.

Please, please let us enjoy what most of the other Premiership clubs have had plenty of in the past couple of decades. A kick off at a decent hour, a chance to actually enjoy a socialable Boxing day and most importantly, 3 points so I spend part of the festive season with a smile on my face for once.

They'll move it in mid-November when us and Palace are ten points ahead of the chasing pack.  We'll win comfortably, putting us seven points clear at the top on new years day.

So does that mean we want a 1.30 or 3.00 kick-off? If the former all the turkey left-overs are snaffled by those who stay at home for lunch.

Without out looking at any of the other boxing day fixtures I'd be amazed if this is move for TV.

Cue it being postponed due to Snow!

Glad this isn't the other way round. Bummer for the Palace fans.

Not as much as a bummer for us to have travel to friggin Sunderland for a New Years Day kick off.

Oh no, then that will mean a re-organised fixture on a rainy February Tuesday evening.

9:05 this morning and I was already getting it in the neck from the missus because I said I would be at Villa Park on Boxing Day.

Bloody earache all day, does she to realise that a Boxing Day match at Villa Park is more traditional than a plate of cold turkey leftovers.

Unless by some miracle my part of the family decides to host the annual Boxing day get-to-gether, I'll be stuck in Brighton/Kent/Bournemouth. Never been to a boxing day match at Villa Park, mostly because I was 1 when it happened.

Am I wrong in thinking we haven't won on Boxing Day since the 4-0 vs Everton when Baros scored twice?

As far as I can remember....

06 - lost to Spurs
07 - 4-4 with Chelsea
08 - 2-2 with Arsenal
09 - 0-3 to Arsenal
10 - brrrrrrrrrrrrr.... I honestly don't remember this one.
11 - lost to Spurs
12 - lost to Spurs

The best ones were tonking Man United 3-0 in 89 ("Fergie out" sang the away fans) and the 4-1 with Spurs when Collymore got a couple.

Chuffed to bits we've got Palace at um. Family connections mean it should be a fun day with a fair few of them coming up for it.

Just hoping one of em doesn't ruin my day

I remember going up to Sunderland on New Years day about ten years ago. I was aboslutely fine up until Scotch Corner, which is when I sobered up. Then it was murder...
