Remember that Albion game well , bank holiday weekend and we beat sunderland at villa park on the Monday 1-0 - strange to start with 2 home games in the opening 3 days.

Being away first game is always hard, not matter who you're playing, as you're not just playing the team, but the natural hope and expectation a new season brings to all football fans.  Double that if it's a promoted club away.

9am this Wednesday. Has anyone got any clever linky thing to the average away ticket allocations of our nineteen PL opponents this season?

Football Ground Guide should have that info.

I'd hazard a guess at 2,000 as an average.

Based on the Football League's anniversary match announcement I wouldn't be surprised if we played Everton Stoke or Baggies on the opening day

I think the PL would rather we didn't know football existed without it.

If not home then away - can't see us playing anyone on a neutral venue.

I always miss the first couple of games due to still being on my jolly hols - Aix En Provence again this year - so Palace or Fulham away the second or third Saturday in would suit me as a good opportunity to see the 'new' team and meet up with friends from here

Fulham at home would be ideal.

Seeing as it's the 125th anniversary of the setting up of the world's first football league, I'm wondering if the Premier League will pay tribute (as the Football League are doing) by pairing up original founding members for the opening day of fixtures?  An Aston Villa v Everton opener would be good and fitting.

For anyone interested, the Football League have set up a website to celebrate the anniversary, here's a fitting link:
http://fl125.co.uk/about

The more I think about it the more I would like to see Villa put a more visible reminder inside Villa Park of our place as the League's creators.  Something big and bold that the TV cameras will catch every time Villa are being covered:  "THE BIRTHPLACE OF THE GAME" or some such statement.  (It would be a whole lot better than the wishy-washy "Theatre of Dreams" stuff that other clubs seem to get away with.)

*Apologies to Hipkiss, just noticed your post.
