Barcelona is lovely.

May seem a silly question but what are the nearest beaches ? Is it a place for sightseeing or can it be a beach break too?

Obviously mrs east would not be keen on eastie visiting the now camp but if there's a good beach nearby it will help :)

No idea, we were only there for the day.

So you didnt get inside the nou camp i take it , bit like visiting Rome and not taking in the colosseum but i guess  not much choice in just one day.

Yes we did a mini tour of the Nou Camp.

It's huge. Just went round the museum then out onto the main stand.

Did the old Wembley stadium tour once and it was great - went into the queens room, and the highlight walking out the tunnel when they turned the crowd notices on - also picking up replica cup at the royal box and seeing the vast network of things behind the sense - fascinating !

So a bit like the West Midlands then!

Well, maybe from next season.  At the minute I suppose Real Sandwell might take umbrage.

For comedy value, one of these in the A45 corridor to make the Noses extra angry would be hilarious.

Last year me and a few mates went on a holiday in Spain. We stayed in a beach town about an hour from Barcelona. Of course I wouldn't recommend the place we stayed (It was like a Spanish Blackpool) but the beach was very nice and there will be beach towns nearer that are nicer places. Annoyingly, we never did get to go round the Nou Camp, in spite of spending some time in Barcelona but you could definitely do a holiday by the beach and be able to go into Barcelona for some site-seeing.

Isn't there a beach within walking distance from La Ramblas ?
The Nou Camp tour was superb.

There's a city beach about a fifteen minute walk from the Ramblas (around the port or you can take the cable car). It's nice with some bars and cafes actually on the beach but there are nicer beaches about a half hour train ride from the city (e.g. Sitges).
I've seen both Espanyol and Barca play. I think we payed on the day for Espanyol. For Barca games you can buy tickets via cashpoints in the city with your debit/credit card (very useful with simple to follow instructions. I think basketball tickets are also available using this method).

Espanyol were playing Real Madrid in the Olympic Stadium when I was there and there was no problem getting tickets. I got tickets from the tourist office on La Ramblas.

Bottom of La Ramblas. Turn left and round a bit and there it is. Madrid's better though - with or without a beach.

Did they have their runners up medals from the 1983 European Super Cup on display!

;)
