I wonder if he is shooting because he wants to score a wonder goal for us, or whether the movement ahead is so crap that he decides it is the lesser of two evils to shoot.

He's obviously on a shit basic salary (relatively speaking to the real world), but with a goal bonus which would keep his family in retirement.

At least he had two shots during the time he was on the field. How many did Gabby and Andi have?
If you don't buy a ticket you will never win a prize.

He never ever looks like winning a prize though

He might think that he can win a prize but he appears to be shooting with one of those wonky guns you find at a fun-fare stall.

To be fair to him, his second shot was very close and also had De Gea well beaten.
He just needs a fortuitous gust of wind to help guide one of his shots back toward goal at some point, and hope the keeper slips over too. His goal will come.

Serious question.  Has he played many times for the reserves?  If so, has he scored for them?

I don't recall him playing for the reserves at all -perhaps the odd game.

And no, he hasn't scored.

Makes me laugh when people say one day he will hit a screamer right into the top corner from 35 yards,
I dare say he will one day,

but it will make no difference whatsoever as to him ever being good enough

Well, if what we want from our attacking players is them scoring goals then him starting to score goals is going to have a pretty big difference as to whether or not he turns out to be good enough.

His biggest problem so far is that he's been trying to do too much (score from 30 yards + for example).  The confidence in his natural game that would come from getting a goal might be what he needs to settle down, he wouldn't be the first player that's happened to.

For what it's worth I thought he looked a lot better than he has before on Saturday.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Using the logic that's he simply shit based on what we've seen so far would have seen us ditch players such as Petrov and Vlaar and they've both proved that it can take a year or so to adjust. In fact we've afforded the likes of Gardner much more time and what has he ever done?

when does his shot start rising? could we paint lines on the pitch where he will score from?

Tonev reminds me a bit of Milosevic, (Savo, Savo,Savo), and if Tonev can score a screamer at Wembley I'll overlook his current target practice

I think he's a player worth persisting with. It's not as if he's cost us the earth.

Gabby and Weimann look totally jaded right now. Both seem like they've run out of puff. Nowt is going right for them. Tonev made a difference against Utd (well, as much as you can when the games already gone). If anything he had a full tank and looked really fresh.

I'd give Tonev a run. Thus far I've not been impressed, but lets get him in for a few games and see if he can turn it round. I'd be tempted to play Tonev and Alby either side of Helenius. That probably won't happen. I know Helenius has struggled a lot to settle but he was one of the few bright sparks against Sheff Utd, so I'm surprised with a goal in his back pocket, he wasn't given a bit more game time after that.
