Guzan and Benteke in Crooks's team of the season
« on: May 21, 2013, 12:39:09 PM »
At least Garth sees what we see.

Hopefully we'll have some defenders competing for places in that line-up next season.

Guzan claimed more catches than any other keeper in the league. I figured as much. I like Brad. He's old school. He'd rather claim a ball than punch, and he's not glued to his line like a lot of keepers now.

He's just in total control of his box. He's like a Mother Superior.

He ruins his credibility a bit though by saying we avoided relegation thanks to the presence of Ron Vlaar.

Yeah, I did an eyebrow raise at that as well.

Does Crooks actually watch much football, I wonder?

I really don't think he does. As I don't have Sky I watch Final Score, he talks absolute crap most of the time. Staggeringly clueless.

His attention to detail is shocking though, he says we have relied on the defensive capabilities of Ron Vlaar & Sebastion Bassong?-grade A bellend

scrap that-I misread that part  :-[

Our improvement did coincide with Vlaar's return.

I agree. Its his presence and leadership that makes him useful. I'm sure he knows as well as we do that he's no McGrath.

This is clearly the part of his game that has developed in the past year, because before then he was very unsure of when to stay and when to come. The 4 goals conceded against Blackburn in the semi final are proof of this. He looks to be very confident in his game and it's a real shame the clean sheet record is so poor which may reflect badly on him to outsiders.

I doubt it. The morning after we beat Sunderland 6-1 he picked his team of the week and overlooked Lowton who had turned in one of the best full back performances I'd seen in years in favour of some Albion right back. He'd obviously not bothered to see our game.

Apparently his choice of centre half for his all time Man Utd Fergie XI was interesting too - Bryan Robson.

I'm convinced there is a lot more to come from Ron Vlaar. He needs a strong player next to him so he can concentrate on his game as opposed to baby sitting a CB and LB that are mistake prone. I think it has affected his game. He's a good leader and you can see he commands respect but he's not good enough on his own to make up for his own deficiencies as well as those around him.

Robbie "Wanker" Savage was scoffing at this on Football Focus on Sunday saying the two players were on a team nearly relegated and Garth responded by saying that Savage had predicted 100% we would be relegated. It was a getting a bit tasty before the presenter stepped into intervene and change topics. Good old Garth.
