Being of an older persuasion, buying the kit isn't right for me. Though I do like the away one. I've always liked claret/purple/blackcurrant away strips and rather liked Spur's kit from a season or two ago for that reason. So I have bought the purple rain jacket as I think it is rather nifty and I tend to go for Villa gear that I will also use practically away from matchdays and to show my allegiance at the same time!

At what age is it considered untrendy to be seen in a footie shirt?

I tend to agree with Dave, although I would suggest teens/early 20s. However, there might be an excuse for soe of the older generation wearing a retro shirt (providing it hasn't got "DAD" on nthe back of it).

Having said that, despite being in middle age, last season I bought my first ever football shirt, taking up the offer of the away shirt for a tenner. Being lime green it is not an obvious footie shirt, and the fit and colour make it ideal as a cycling shirt. Yuo won't see me wearing it in Tescos though.

It's not anybody's business to tell you that you can or can not wear a Villa shirt in public. If you want to wear one, wear one. If you don't, don't.

Same here Eastie.I have every home and away shirt going back to 89-90 and a few from before that.
I still have my shirt from 80-81 from when I was 5.
Yes that is a bit sad .

I usually throw them out after 2 years - shame really seeing what price the old shirts can go for on ebay- seem to be a few collectors about.

I agree entirely. I don't personally think it looks good over about the age of 40 but that is just my opinion. I have several shirts hanging in my wardrobe from the early 80s Mita black and white one right up to the Mellberg/West Ham one and Acorns from a few seasons ago, but I tend in the past to have bought them on impulse and then not ever really worn them on any consistent basis - or at least not since I turned 40. It used to be a summer holiday thing for me - showing your allegiance in hotter climes and there was a bit of a buzz about getting the new shirt just before you jetted off somewhere hot.  I get much more use out of T shirts, rain jackets etc with the Villa logo on them these day and I just somehow think they are more befitting of my age...

That's criminal! They make great hand-me-down presents to relatives and friends.
If it was not for me getting a Villa shirt in 1980 when I was 5 years old I would most probably be a Wolves fan.

As I was getting older I saved my shirts for my little cousin.

Now I only buy them for my kids but I am tempted with the old retro ones.

When I say throw out i don't mean in the bin - I stick them in a bag and leave it out for the air ambulance collectors .
