I think Gardner will start. He's exactly the type of player Di Canio loves as he gives 100% and can get a bit nasty if necessary.

Don't worry about this one.

I am detaching from all sources of news and sport for the evening soon. When I do that, it always works out for us.

I will do the same from 65 minutes, which worked against stoke and west ham, and the final 10 of Qpr

Me too. Gardner is the type of player you'd want in a relegation battle. Hard working, determined, fighter and goal threat.

Please, please, please, Villa. Just win this one.  3 points tonight and Chelsea, Bradford and Millwall will be partly forgiven.

The time has come- lets do it !

@MatKendrick: Kevin Friend is the ref for Villa's game at Norwich on Saturday. Before that it's Lee Probert tonight after he replaced Mike Dean #avfc

Maybe if everyone on here did this, we could have an amazing cumulative effect.

1 win 3 draws and a defeat to United 1-0 under Probert over 2 seasons, with the home win over Reading this season from what I can see.

Dean is statistically our best ref though I think, so maybe not a great omen.

As for Friend, mixed bag, Wigan and United home defeats, QPR home win, though I distinctly recall the first half of that game almost everyone on the match thread thinking that he and Redknapp were headed for a shot-gun wedding, so again, could be better!

There is a band outside the North Stand playing some of the usual shite you associate with England & Sheffield Wednesday.I hope to f*ck they are not inside Villa Park tonight.

Dave has started the match thread, which may be a good omen. I am clutching, desperately to straws.

I also started the ManYoo one.

I'd throw those particular straws away.

I feel like I'm just about to sit my economics A level again. My guts are looping the frigging loop. Whatever happens Lambert, I'll never forgive you for putting us all through this!
