In what is quite stunning and wonderful news Stan will be taking part in pre season training as a player when the squad returns next week. And he will travel with the squad to Austria for the training camp. Amazing news.

Wow. That is a real good news story. Opinions are obviously divided on whether he will be able to make the comeback, but hopefully we can all agree that it would be a wonderful story. Good on RDM for giving him a chance.

We need good people again at the club and good, strong characters. Elphick and Stan would provide a tremendous base. If Stan does come back I'd not expect him to play every game, maybe even half of them, but what a great influence he would be. Make him club captain, Elphick team captain when Stan isn't on the pitch.

It will be an unbelievable story if he actually makes it back. I've discounted and disregarded this since I read that he was looking to get back into shape. If he gets back onto the pitch at all it will be truly awe inspiring.

It's not even sure it is the 'great things' that they should take note of, Stan's desire to simply train again and get the last ounce out of his career is the polar opposite of Gabby's 'shrug and count his cash' attitude.  Just having him in the squad may go a long way to removing the toxic culture of the club. 

To be honest I doubt he will ever play a meaningful match for us again but this is still tremendous news.

If nothing else comes from this I hope he gets a cameo in one of the pre-season games.  As others have said the sheer force of will involved in coming back from this makes him a massively positive influence and having him around the club even if only for the summer will do a lot of good for the young players who have had wasters like Richards and Gabby as their role models so far.
