He's the sort of old head that might be useful for 15/20 minutes as a sub or an hour at home games next season. Experience and class, plus his arse would win us a number of free kicks to whip balls in for Gestede.

That's a truly heartwarming story.

Even if he's only half the player he was, he'd be a quantum leap in improvement from the tossers we have now.

Kusmet Stan.

You know, there are few things that get me emotional in football. The idea of Stan leading us back to promotion next season is the stuff of Hollywood fairy tales. It would be incredible, and even half the player he was in front of the back 4 in that division, he would be worth his weight in gold.

Thats a big ask to get anywhere near fit for the championship ..but can you imagine the lift to the team if he was in the middle of the pitch playing again...

His health is far too precious to even contemplate returning to the rigors of professional football.  Stay where you are Stan, as appealing as it is.

He knows his own health better than anyone, and if he thinks he could get back I'd like to see us give him a chance. It would be great just to have him involved with the club again.

Even if he is just at training, that would be a great lift to the team. And he's probably more keen to get fit than some we could mention.

Get him registered and in the team for Newcastle!!
He could replace Gestede or Guzan and we wouldn't be any worse off, that's for sure!

Sorry Monty, for possibly the first time I have to disagree with your post.  Cancer of any form is too insidious to fuck about with.  I accept your point about him knowing his own health but, imo it's too risky.  I'm not saying he should let it dictate fully how he lives his life but, why, at that age; would you even consider it?

Years ago, a friend who had been given the all-clear from cancer decided to play indoor football.  He got a knock and the cancer returned and the medical professionals attributed it directly to the knock he'd received, he died.   Maybe this has stuck with me and clouded my judgement.

I never knew cancer could return because of that? Would have thought decent exercise would be good. Seem to remember something about Bob Marley and the way he got cancer, can't remember.

Is it really that much of a risk? He's been playing football anyway.

It's a romantic idea but he shouldn't even consider it imo. It's over 4 years since he last played a competitive game, he's 37 soon. Just enjoy life Stan.

I played with him the week before last, and though he looks healthy I'd say he's some way off playing pro again.

Lovely idea but sadly just wishful thinking on his part & the majority of the fans.

Maybe he just enjoys playing? He might never be good enough to play anywhere near the top level (or for us), but he might be able to play lower down the league or non-league if he gets his fitness up. If he gets a kick out of it, why not?
