Every time I hear the name Petrov, I am reminded of countless match threads where  there was much groaning about crab-like passing. Am I a bad person?

If a bit flamboyant.

You were asking.

No. Not at all.

I am very pleased he is clearly getting better but less pleased he is coming back in a coaching role. It didnt work out last time and I see no reason to think it will this one. If the club wants to have him around an ambassadorial kind of role might be more suitable.

Again, I have no beef with Stan and am very proud of our support of him during his illness but an unproven coach is the last thing we need right now.

and yet some people would love to see Martin Laursen back at the club, even as far as suggest manager when things looked most bleak. You might be right off course and none of us know how this will work out, or his ability as a coach. But after this many years in the game, many as a team captain he's going to picked things up if nothing else. And sometimes it's important to have smart people around as a leader, even people smarter than yourself. Stan is a smart man and he'll be able to identify things in games that will help.

I'm really not sure about this. Sherwood is coming in with a bang, saying the right things, adding ex employees and ex-Villa men into the backroom team and getting a feelgood factor. Whilst that is welcome I just can't shake the feeling that its akin to coming up on some illicit drug and then we'll hit a high. It won't be too long before the come down though and the realisation that it was just a short-term fix.

it may be all that we need this season. It may still end up going wrong. We're in the media's eyes again which I always like. But , I'm just a bit ambivalent towards the direction we're going. fast and furious behind the scene, media soundbites and press hanging off his titbits, appointments to please fans. Inspired or just 'appy 'arry blaze of glory?

I was sceptical at Sherwood when he was appointed, but have been impressed by him so far and do not think he would have brought in Petrov purely as a cheerleader or someone to appease the fans. Furthermore, I do not think that Stan would have come in if that had been the case.

Sir Brian used to say 'football club' a lot. Of course, he can say or do whatever the fuck he likes.

For sure.

Very good, Percy. :)

Top Man Stan, congratulations. Plus a referee in shades, how cool is that!

Delighted for Stan. What a feeling that must be. Hopefully that's a good omen for us this season because McGrath knows we could do with lifting a trophy too.
