PETROV RETURNS: Tim Sherwood confirms that Stan Petrov will return to Villa.

Stan will come back to work with the first team.

Sherwood said: "Stan will always have a place at this football club while I'm manager."

Why oh why oh why do footballers and managers INSIST on that superfluous word "football" in this context?

As if we don't realise he's not talking about a bingo club or a working men's club or something.

It drives me nuts.

You're a very weird man.

I agree with paulie (that's twice in one day now).

The superfluous "football" has crept in to common usage in the past couple of years. I associate it with Pulis and Moyes.

Sir Brian used to say 'football club' a lot. Of course, he can say or do whatever the fuck he likes.

For sure.

My personal gripe is the sudden need for players, managers and punditsto refer to good players as 'top, top players'.

I really like what Sherwood said about Stan coming back. That Stan can essentially offer some perspective on things, given everything he has been through the past couple of years, on the importance of life more than football. And that he hasn't just brought him in as a mascot but more on the technical aspects that he will bring to the staff.

Can we get a one off 19th minute applause on Saturday? Would really get the atmosphere ramping up and a good way to welcome him back to the football club.

Not sure it is needed either for Stan or to get the atmosphere going.

The same can be said about people who write "thread" at the end of a thread title.

For example "The 2015 transfer thread" What is wrong with "2015 transfers". We know it's a thread. Drives me nuts.
