Good PR for the club, not sure if it will work long term - due to Stans illness

Well let's try and look on the positive side and say he'll be at the club well after he's fully recovered.

It is a good move I think and typical of the way the club likes to look after it's own. Well done AVFC.

It's great news, for him and us.

If we disregard the issue of his illness for a second he's just the sort of person you'd want involved in helping develop our players.

I doubt he's going to be doing 50 hours weeks to start with but it keeps him involved and gives him a focus.

I think it is a very sensible footballing decision. I am also proud of how our club have done this.

Stan's value to the club went beyond what he was able to do on the pitch, particularly in the latter years.

The likes of Bannan, Albrighton and co were always at pains to point out how he made the transition from youth team to first team easier, by looking out for the younger players and making them feel a part of things.
This may well be true

Previous captains we've had -even if they've been better players-  have been looking out for themselves first and foremost.  Think Southgate, Barry and Young.

How on earth can you know this?  Sothgate and Barry in particular struck me as consummate professionals during their time at the Villa.  Just because they had the audacity to move on does not mean they weren't 'club men' when they were here.

Unless you have inside info of course?  If so, fair enough.  If not, well, I hate this sort of blanket statement slagging off people who can't defend themselves just because they moved on.

Will it be ok to post a stream for Sundays Legends game out in Bulgeria?

That will be Gareth Southgate who spends his weekends coaching and refereeing an Under 11's team in Harrogate each week? Yep, always looking out for himself.

I know Southgate and Barry left us for their careers, but they always come across as good people with a really genuine affection for the club.

A strange view of the past.
Southgate was a great player and captain for Villa but was thwarted by the general air of mediocrity around VP at the time.
Barry gave us 11 years of his career.

All players look after themselves in the end; why wouldn't they?!

Agreed. Barry and Southgate were both first class captains for Villa. At least as good as good as Petrov, and probably better if I'm honest. That's not me being unkind about Petrov. I was always one of his biggest fans on here.

A quick heads up that Bulgaria v Aston Villa is on today.  There are links out there to the game that I assume are legal but,  to be on the safe side, I won't post them here.  I think it's half time at the moment so all to play for...
