Glad that he's doing well, my sisters not very well at the moment and it helps seeing people winning these difficult battles. Under-appreciated as a player it's good to see him getting his due recognition as a great bloke.

Be great if we could score at the end of the 18th minute, the clap would lift the foundations

Seconded.

I hope nobody makes the mistake of assuming that Villa's regard for Stan is based on us thinking that he is just a footballer who was struck by a terrible illness. He'd certainly won my heart as a player, captain and wonderful ambassador for the club long before that.

A 19th minute goal is certainly due.

Yesterday R5 was at its worst, dealing with the retirement of the century. Today, they interviewed two women who'd gone through similar to Stan. What a contrast. Unlike the silly gits who yesterday claimed to be genuinely grieving, listening to those two women and reading the statement had me in tears.

Sort of strange the first home game after the announcement of Stan's disease was against Chelsea and we play them the next game after his retirement announcement.

I'm pleased that we're going to get the opportunity to say our farewells but I'm going to struggle to get through it on Saturday.

It's ridiculous I know, as cancer is so random in who it victimises, but because our illnesses were similar and almost contemporaneous I've felt a bond with what he is going through.

In a period when footballers are so often derided for their behaviour, throughout his time here he's always been a credit to himself, his family and the club. He'll be fondly remembered.

Best of luck for the future, Stan.

Matt Kendrick just tweeted Stan will lead the players and families out - AFTER the game.

Will he be out at half time or pre game?

Got to meet someone in town after the game so not sure I can stay for the lap afterwards.

Looks like after the game only.

What an emotional afternoon it is going to be - I am filling up just thinking about the 19 minute roar of appreciation.
There will be tears and we should be proud of that.

Great statement from a great man, pin it up in the dressing room Lambo.

Gutted I can't make the last home game. Just hope they show it on MOTD or football first.
