Oh and the ref was shocking. Missing the blatant backpass set the tone for his 'performance'. We had to beat 12 opposition today.

Paul Lambert on enthralling victory.

Paul Lambert hailed the team's exceptional reserves of courage as they saw off QPR 2-1 in an enthralling game at Villa Park.

Lambert was pleased with his team's start as they passed their way through the opening quarter but he said the side were rocked by the first goal for the visitors.

Gabby Agbonlahor's late first-half equaliser gave them buoyancy and he was delighted with the quality on show after the break.

He said: "I thought we started the game really well.

"They got a goal and Brad has made three world-class saves, which certainly helped us.

"I thought we started really well, passed it really well but the goal rocked us. It always will, that's an experienced team not just a young team.

"But credit to the players. We scored at the death in the first-half and then after that, we were exceptional.

"We deserve a lot of credit, we were excellent, especially second half.

"I always think we are a threat and today proved it. Especially attacking that Holte End, it can suck the ball in at times.

"What's really pleasing, we were down a goal and pegged it back. QPR contributed to a brilliant game of football I thought - the excitement of it.

"They came back at us really strongly and then Andi Weimann did brilliantly for the third goal. We saw it through, which was really pleasing."

It wasn't just his players who came in for credit from Lambert.

He was also delighted with the contribution of the crowd, hailing the immense noise levels throughout the ninety minutes of high-tempo football.

He continued: "The momentum is there. Liverpool is a really tough next game.

"But we have the crowd right with us. The noise level was fantastic for us today. It gives us a good feeling around the football club."

Lambert refused, however, to be too exuberant because he knows Villa still have a job to do in the closing weeks of the season, as they look to secure their top-flight status.

He added: "There's a long way to go. This is the first time this football club has won back to back games since 2011. It's an incredible stat.

"But the noise of the stadium, the crowd with us, we are certainly playing well enough."

Excellent win and I'm quite exhausted after putting all my nervous energy into watching it.

Looking forward to MoTD.

How long has it been since we beat a Redknapp side?

Not bad for a side that was never going to win another game all season and had no heart, passion or fight. I fucking love them, especially Guzan. Watching him in the second half was like looking in a mirror. I can't think of any keeper we've had who seems to care so much.

Also shows what a positive effect a good crowd and atmosphere can have.

And finally, QPR fans were wank, All Billy Big Bollocks when 1 up, then all sat down and complete silence once we scored. Gobby again when they equalised and then nothing once we scored again. He's Harry Redknapp, he's taking you down. He's Paul Lambert, he's keeping us up.

@ed_son: QPR were 6 points adrift when Harry Redknapp took over. £25m and 19 games later QPR are 7 points adrift. #redknappmagic

Fantastic game with a nerve shredding finish. Guzan, incredible. Gabby and Andi Weimman fantastic in the 2nd half. It's not over yet by a long chalk but I'd rather be in our position than Wigan's.

Disagree brontebilly. Bannan and Westwood played at a pretty similar level today. Both pretty good in possession. Neither offer much protection for the defence. It's pretty embarressing how opposition players can just jog to the edge of our area without any meaningful attempt to dispossess them. That's why I would prefer Sylla to sit deeper.

Think I read in the pre-match thread that the last time we beat a Redknapp team was when Milan Baros scored the winner in a 1-0 win against Portsmouth before they went on a run of games to survive. Must be about 7/8 years.
