Downing on Twitter Q&A
« on: March 08, 2013, 06:28:22 PM »
When Liverpool FC ‏@LFC decided to host a Twitter Q&A for Stewart Downing they were probably expecting some nice gentle questions about what it was like to play with Steven Gerrard and whether the winger preferred brown sauce or ketchup.

How wrong they were.

The #askdowning thread (which is still going strong) was instead hijacked by football fans taking the mickey out of the winger’s underwhelming contribution since joining Liverpool for £20m last season.

Here are a selection of the best (Stewart, if you’re reading this, best to look away now, mate):

@DualeAdam1  If you were a footballer, what would your preferred position be?

@haz_elnino How did it feel when Messi robbed you of the Ballon d'Or?

@BillHansen28 So you left Aston Villa for Champions League football. How's that working out for you?

@Notcarlcole On a scale of 1 to Jesus, how good are your crosses?

Madridsta‏@Neymar_FCC  Jamie Carragher has seen some things during his time at Anfield, but how did the poor guy feel when he first played with you?

@SyrJamified How did you feel last season knowing Tim Howard was closer to lifting the Golden Boot than you?

@arpan_manutd Do you know any footballer (except you) who is neither footed?

Jay Hankin‏@Jayfuz When do you think England will have a naturally left-footed winger with real quality?

Fergie's Hairdryer‏@aethistlord How do you get to the other side of the road when you don't know how to cross?

Jon Barbuti‏@jonbarbuti Which Premier League bench is the comfiest?

SN‏@iamsamnorman Have you been mis-sold payment protection insurance? You could be entitled to thousands of pounds worth of compensation.

Zali Mazli‏@ZaliMazli You finished 2,309,48th on the Ballon D'Or list, behind my mate Mak who plays for the school team. Did you expect to finish this high?

Martin Faulkner‏@faulknmd The UK are sending Bonnie Tyler to Eurovision. How do you feel about worn-out old brands trading solely on past glories?

Aaron Montgomery‏@aaronspud1 Did you think when they made this hashtag you were gonna get serious questions?

I would pay good money to have just one 50/50 ball with the spineless rat.

I'd happily rip his arm off and beat him to death with it.

This is the best one:

#AskDowning The UK are sending Bonnie Tyler to Eurovision. How do you feel about worn-out old brands trading solely on past glories?

The Tim Howard one was totez pwnage. So how has Stuey reacted to this? As I recall he gave a live webchat questionnaire on AVTV about a week before he left us.

Brilliant topic. Scousers have their faults, but they are good at humour. And 50 year old pop music. Downing deserves it. Villa did brilliantly for £20m.

I just love the simplicity of 'If you were a footballer, what would your preferred position be?'

Yeah, that was my favourite. Sharp. Very sharp.

I'm amazed that they still do these twitter Q&As, Michael Owen got slated just as badly when he tried it last year

Perhaps their agents thought (*drags knuckles*) it was a good idea?

'How did it feel to have more arrests last season than assists?'
