Does he ever shut up about how good Martinez is?

Quote
The Latics' 4-1 defeat at Arsenal confirmed their relegation to the Championship, just three days after they lifted the FA Cup.

Martinez has been linked with the soon-to-be vacant manager's job at Everton but Whelan reckons he will remain at the DW Stadium.

Whelan told talkSPORT: "We've got one ambition now, and that is to come straight back up next season.

"We will fight next year, and we'll look to come back within that first season - it's so important.

"Roberto knows how I feel about him and I know how Roberto feels about me and the club. He's a very, very loyal gentleman.

"When the day dawns - and it will - when he says, 'chairman, I want to go to this or that club', I will release him immediately.

"He is aware of that, and if that time is now, so be it.

"But somehow I don't think it will be. I'm just hoping Roberto waits and has another one or two years with us, because he will eventually go to a top European club."

Whelan added that there had been no contact from Everton.

"The club have heard nothing whatsoever," he said. "Everton are a super club and they know the rules and regulations. They are very mannerly and I don't think they would ever approach Roberto before the season is over."

I don't get how he thinks anyone is going to go from managing Wigan to managing Barcelona in one move. Some people are saying that Everton to Man United will be too big a step for Moyes. Martinez needs an Everton/Villa size job next year. Not that I'd want him.

2,000 tickets please Mr Whelan.

...you wanker
Bit harsh, I only wanted us to get the extra tickets!

I suspect Des was referring to Whelan ;)

Not a bad shout.

I've just done the predictor for Sunday for one last time(!) and have us finishing 11th.  Just as the obvious set of results we feared happening last weekend transpired to drop us four places, I think a similar expected set of results will happen this weekend moving us back up!

It may go against club pride etc. but I couldn't give a rats arse about the last game. The aim has been achieved.

I'm drained and need to focus on other areas of my life!

I know how you feel. I punched the air when Arsenal's third went in and since then have just felt a bit underwhelmed. Being jubilant about not being relegated is very Birmingham City.

Exactly.  A massive relief to go in to last game with no threat of the drop but hardly cause for celebration.  We need to get out of the cycle of underachievement.  A whole generation has not known Villa lift a trophy.

It feels so wonderful to be safe now. It's like a weight has been lifted off my chest, I'll really enjoy the build up to the weekend now. Hopefully we'll win and finish high up the table, but it's great to have it not really matter now. First game in ages we can go into with no pressure.

I did'nt really celebrate any of Arsenal's goals, i just sat there with a contented smile on my face.

It's lovely knowing we're safe. I think the Wigan game will be a celebration, not for staying up but for optimisim for the future.

Tell him the stick them where the sun don't shine. If it wasn't good enough last week why should we give him money now?

I agree with Fred. I love the Wigan away trip - easy to get to, friendly locals, found a great pub (the Pear Tree) and we usually win there. But if my money wasn't good enough when it mattered then it aint good enough now. The rancid old cockstrangler can do one!

It still does matter. There's £4.5 million to play for.

My thoughts exactly, I couldn't celebrate their goals because the weren't scored by Villa. It would have been a ball-ache if they won but I can go to Wigan on Sunday with a huge smile on my face and in party mode. I had faith in us to get something there if needed anyway.
