Why would Wigan give us 5,400 tickets for this?

Because they can't sell them to their own?
It was a rhetorical question.

Do Wigan usually take more home fans than usual to the last home game of the season, which they always seem to win to stay up?

Yes. There were seven of them there last season.

If the game is as significant as it could be, I and many others will be going to Wigan regardless. We'll add our support to those in the ground from the streets outside.

Really hope we are safe by the time this game comes along so that it can be one big party.

I'm sure there will be many that do so, which is why it makes sense from a policing point of view to give us the full allocation.

Their away end holds that number.

I went to the game last season and was expecting to see about 10 home fans. In reality it was pretty full all over and think the attendance was 20k which was one of their highest last season.

ATT was 20,612 at the time their highest of the season
Previous home game Everton 18,340
Prior to that Man City 16,026

Villa ARE a big club.

What people are forgetting is QPR are at Liverpool the same day. It's only 20 miles away.
Both teams could be playing to stay up.No way will GMP let us have 5,000 tickets.

Nonsense. The reason for the good attendance was that, as big rugby fans, the people of Wigan had come to pay homage to the wondrous tactics of McLeish.

QPR take a couple of taxis full at most.

Yeah, cos if we go down the first thing I'll be thinking of is how can I get a taxi to Merseyside to engage in some fisticuffs.

I think some people are panicking over nothing. Small Heath, Leeds, Milwall and countless clubs with far more scumbags than us have been relegated in recent years without the need to keep the Army on standby.

Remember how much we took the piss out of Newcastle? Did it kick off? No, they were far too miserable for such scampery.

If we go to Wigan on the last day and it is an "us or them" situation, then I'd back their experience of being in this situation and pulling themselves out of it against our naivety every single time, unfortunately.
Thanks for this note of optimism...as if there are not enough other threads to do that!
