Great day, he looked like he was going to be a great signing, the final piece in the jigsaw. After that game we had a healthy lead at the top of the table and the title looked a real possibility. The other thing I remember was it being way too packed in the away end, and this was AFTER Hillsborough.

I remember getting in a real crush on the away terrace at the Baseball Ground.

It was absolutley baking on that terrace, there didn't seem to be any barriers and we were in perpetual motion throughout the game.

We were right down the front, to the left of the goal.

I was behind the goal with the masses. Great day.

I've been checking the stats and after this win we were on 58 points with 9 to play. 5 clear of Liverpool who had 2 games in hand.

We then won only 3 of the remaining 9 matches and ended up 9 points behind them. What a sickener.

I often wonder if things would have been different if Cascarino's header would have gone in in this game. As it turned out, he didn't score until the penultimate game against Norwich when the challenge for the title officially ended.

Rather worryingly, Sheff Wed went down on 43 points !!!!!

I always found it ironic that the maligned Ormondroyd (our previous record signing) scored the goal in this game given the fanfare which accompanied Cascarino's arrival.

The week after at Everton, he scored for both teams!

I was there too, great afternoon out.  Put me down as one of those who wonders if Cascarino's header had gone in, would it have all been different?

Tony Daley had a spectacular season that year when he was switched to the right.  It seemed the one year when his crossing was outstanding.  I think Taylor got him to think a bit more about his delivery and it paid massive dividends.  I remember the Christmas period when he took Man Utd and Arsenal to the cleaners in 3 days at Villa Park.

Bloody shame Taylor left for England at the end of that season.  I think if he had stayed he may well be revered in the way Saunders is.

I remember it being a bit hot and claustrophobic behind the goal. I also remember Ormondroyd being dropped for Callaghan to come in for his first game since the infamous QPR/Beelzebub game and then the two of them being swapped at half time.
