What a relief that win was but boy do we make it hard for ourselves. 

West Ham are shit or we made them look so, maybe it's a bit of both.  They could easily be dragged into the bottom over the coming weeks if we can pick up points in our next few games.

I just thought it was typical of the games we've seen against Allardyce teams over the years, they drag everything down to their level.

He invests so much resource in different kinds of sports science, fitness, nutrition, psychology, astrology, feng shui, soothsayers, witch doctors, particle physics and so on and yet the end result is the most archaic, lowest common denominator attritional bollocks football.

so what has happened to him ?

up untill a few weeks ago he heading for the legendary status as one of the worst Villa signings of all times,
i dont completly buy the play him in his correct position excuse, obviously thats going to help, but a good player when he has the ball at his feet he either does something with it or not, he looks interested or not, he puts a shift in no matter where he plays or not.
and untill recently N'zog has not being doing anything of note, now he has become in some ways our saviour, so whats changed, why the sudden change of heart and form

very welcome as it all is, but something has changed, and its not just down to playing in a certain role

I doubt he even uses all his resources, he probably just wants all those dossiers and textbooks to make a fort.

I think there are two reasons.

1- Position. He is played in a central role allowing him freedom to move at will behind the frontmen. This is his natural role where he is most dangerous. He's not a winger.

2- Mentality. His role allows him to be important for the team. The string puller. The X Factor.
I think this has motivated him to perform to the levels expected of him. There may be other reasons. Maybe Lambert has found a way of communicating with him that works. Maybe he's just more settled.

I think there's a third, which is that tactiacally the wide players in the 4-2-3-1 formation are doing a lot of tracking back, which sort of takes the pressure off him for doing the same.  Off the ball we can be more like a 4-4-1-1.  This suits him as he is by nature not exactly a work horse!
