Setting off at 4pm - what are road conditions like in and around Aston?

I was just told that main roads are fine but everything else is an ice rink. I'm gonna come off at junction 7 and drive to Perry Barr Greyhound car park. I'm hopeful that should be fine as its a main road.

Drive carefully fella

Bloody hell, The Windsor - haven't been there in years.  If you want the full on pikey experience, why not head up to the Square Peg?  you'll see things in there you never thought possible.

I can vouch for that! After spending a few hours in there years back nothing will shock me in a pub ever again!

To give the uninitiated a flavour, I once saw a young woman forcibly ejected from The Square Peg for being paralytic and abusive to staff and customers. Nothing unusual in that except it was at 9:30 on a Saturday morning.

The Square Peg is the only pub I have been in and approached by beggars on more than one occasion.

It's a fucking shit hole.

You too mate - I was scheduled to be in Olham on Friday (St Chads) but I have now been asked to stay on Merseyside - (I work out of Bolton - Horwich) .

When in town before a match, one insists on Scruffy Murphy's.

Weather here sounds similar to Birmingham, so things "should" be fine. I'm picking my cousin up in 30 mins then making a chilled journey down the M6. Side roads are garbage but the main ones are fine, although there will be ice patches no doubt.

He's a Latics fan so I'm hoping the Villa crowd impresses him tonight, and the lads on the pitch too :-)

Christ, I haven't been in there for eons.

Mind you, judging by the clientle often standing outside it looks like some kind of portal to the underworld.

I've been out to Nottingham yesterday and Derby this morning, and the main routes are fine, it was a little bit slippy in spots this morning but the traffic has cleared that up by now.

The Windsor was a fine pub in its day - The finest Guiness and cheese and onion crusty rolls in all of the Midlands.Used to frequent there when I worked in town back in 1978. As a Civil servant we used to have flexi time - two hour lunches in there with the gaffer on a Friday was heaven - back to work for 90 mins and then down to the Midland Hotel Bar (The Buttery? for a game of darts). Days were so simple then!

The Old Contemptibles is alright these days. Usually has Purity beers on tap. I quite like the Old Joint Stock, too.

I don't like the Wellington, though. I can appreciate the range of ales, but the stink of the place and the selection of miserable old blokes sipping halves gives it all the appeal of a hospital waiting room.

I saw the other day that massive old building on Bennett's Hill has become a pub now. Am sure it was a cafe before. Actually, think it might not be on Bennett's hill, but just off it, on a corner, has a big, round entrance "hall" with an ornate ceiling.

It's on Bennett's Hill and was a pub. It used to be Bennett's and was very nice when it opened before going downhill. It's reopened as something else.
