Lambert seemed to pick 7 players for one half of the pitch and 4 for the other, with the main means of joining the two together being a big boot of the ball in the general direction of Benteke.

It makes no sense at all. It's a waste of Benteke's talent and is probably the one tactic most easily dealt with by a div 4 outfit.

What is even more frustrating is that during the short periods of the game when we did actually get the ball down and play, we caused Bradford all kinds of problems.  In those short periods, we managed to get N'Zogbia on the ball in dangerous areas and we created a number of chances.  I just couldn't understand why we persisted with hitting so many long balls (the majority of which went nowhere near their intended target) when it was clear that tactic wasn't going to work.

I've recovered a little from the disappointment and hurt of last night and still believe that we can win the tie.  We are going to need some width though as I would expect them to pack the midfield.

Who was it talking a while back about a sports psychologist?

It was my dad. But think we're past the stage of therapy, I think counselling would be more appropriate

Celtic have brought in Jim McGuinness who's well known over here for turning a group of no-hope Gaelic footballers into champions in the space of two years. (You can't make transfers in Gaelic football so to achieve what he did with that group of players really was a tribute to Jim's sports psychology qualifications.

I genuinely think Villa need somebody with similar credentials at the club. We are mentally fragile with no belief.

Last night was a horrifying vision of what life could be like in the Championship next year.

I've just had a fantastic idea. Why don't we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and go again?

Elements of our support was a disgrace last night, fighting amongst themselves, (saw at least 2 fights), and if you were the bloke in block E row f seat 127, you are the most disgusting fan i have ever met, non stop vitriol (effing and C'ing) at our players from the very first to the last whistle.
i can appreciate some frustration, but this is out of order!

They had to close the Queens pub because of, alleged, trouble.

That was on the WMP twitter feed but wasn't actually true. I made the mistake of going in there, the lot in there were pretty excitable and the local Police decided to make the landlord close and walk everyone to the ground an hour before kick off. There was no actual trouble in there though.

Thanks.  Yes, I did read it on twitter.

I can't believe how many are calling for Lambert to go. Had Benteke taken any of the numerous early chances, it'd have been a different game entirely. So they scored and we caved, that's football, we all know it. It happens. We're in a shite run but sacking yet another manager won't solve that.

Quite. And don't pack your trunk or say goodbye, the clowns may have been poor but I hear the the piss artists are good.

The clowns certainly were poor last night. (I'm not an elephant, by the way, despite working on it over Christmas!)

The afternoon after the night before. I work in Bradford and to be fair my colleagues have been surprisingly gentle on me. They seem quite concerned about the second leg and a few have mentioned how much we dominated them at the start of the game. I'm hoping their players are having similar doubts and bottle it. Last night was an embarrassment but we've got another chance. Let's take it.

Yeah, I've calmed down a lot, I didn't sleep much at all out of anger/hurt but looking back on it had Benteke taken one of his 4 chances before they scored we could have rolled them over. Bent missing at 0 1 was also a key moment in the game, an early goal is imperative in the next leg
We need a packed out Villa Park and a rocking atmosphere

Also the knobhead who thought it funny to smash up the toilets after the game. Why people have to take their frustration out on a Division Four club who have had the nerve to beat us is beyond me. Their staff must be glad they are still in a lowly division when they go round and inspect the damage today.

Also the mindless idiot who held up his cigarette lighter with flame turned up when me and my son were making our way out of Block D, baiting the home support about the fire in 85 no doubt.  Totally out of order and in disgustingly bad taste these morons really do give the club a bad image.

Hence my comments in the "56th minute" thread.

We have an element of complete arseholes that go to away games.

Yeah you might have got it as well if the club weren't so greedy asking for £39 to sit in Trinity Lower.  Anyway my seats have already sold in the general sale so fair enough but at £39 no thanks!
