I would say that he has found the job more difficult than he thought. He has been very unlucky with injuries with over the course of the season losing and Rankin.  Chris Wright fairly early on plus further injuries to Hannan-Dalby even earlier plus those to Barker and Rankin. Rankin gets fit and he gets called up by England along with Woakes. Everyone knew Woakes would be on England scene but i think Rankin was a surprise. He of course also lost his skipper for 4 County games albeit Chopra filled in admirably.
So i think Dougie's reign is definetly 'Work in Progress'.
I do believe they could have utilised Darren Maddy's undoubted experience more in the Championship but i suppose the thinking there was to give some of the younger blood the requisite experience in Ateeq Javid and Laurie Evans and they have been massive success' for Dougie and both have a long future at the club. We have also lost runs in the batting due once again to injuries to the like of Westwood. IW isnt everyone's cup of tea but he does offer some consistency at the top off the innings. The one big disappointment must be the failure again of Porterfield and i'm not too sure what future he has at the club.
We have the young inexperienced Coleman who is back with the Bears after playing for Scotland in YB40 now that the championship is likely to be out of reach maybe Dougie can slip him in somewhere between now and season end to see what he offers. Piolet going to Sussex to get some championship experience can be of benefit.
It was always going to be difficult for Dougie coming in on the back of a Championship win plus a one day final appearance but i certainly want him at the club for the forseeable future along with Graeme Welch. It's coaching staff that is Bears through and through with Tony Frost on the coaching staff as well.
It would be good if the club could recruit Jos Buttler - so watch this space on that one.
As i write Porterfield gets bowled for 44 by Crook so another time where he gets in and doesn't go on.
82-1 13.4
