I thought we'd be in for a long hard slog in the field with our inexperienced attack. Credit to them for sticking with it despite the fielders dropping Kieswetter a few times.

Now for some application from the batsmen.

Problems will be for our bowling attack for 2nd innings both Barker (Ankle) and Clarke have sustained injuries whilst bowling in Somerset innings. Also if Woakes is released by England you would have assumed he would have replaced Gordon. Now that Gordon is batting i assume that Woakes will be unable to bat in the first innings - or does it mean he may replace Barker or Clarke!!!

Bears now 223- 3 83 overs
Javid a career best 87 NO
Evans 86 no
New ball has been taken and runs coming.
27 overs left to achieve some extra batting points - i imagine 350 must be target to get 4 batting points 5 i think out the question....185 for 4th wkt so far.

It's a great recovery from 50-odd for 3.

Bears in for Compton and Buttler from Somerset.

Our fragile batting line up needs addressing but I do question the logic of signing players on the fringe of the England squad. We could lose them for most of the season and end up relying on what we already have.

New Batsmen in?

I think Compton has shot his bolt for England, Buttler is a good youngster and has big potential but isn't good enough for a test place.
