Did Stan Lynn not score a hat-trick against Bristol City in a 5-0 win away the week after we beat Charlton 11-1 and the following week beat Scunthorpe 5-0.

I dont think that was Stan  It was probably Gerry Hitchens or as a long shot Bobby Thomson or possibly Peter McParland the greatest player I have seen at Villa Park. And that includes Pele!

Gerry Hitchens. He also bagged two against Scunthorpe. 10 goals in three games.

That was a great season. It was the one I had my first experience of the magic of a midweek match - against Hull. I was allowed to go as there was no school the next day.

We scraped a 1-1 draw with a Lynn penalty. This would have been Christmas time, we had a 100% home record up to that game. We banged in goals for fun, I think we only lost one at home all season - Doc Pace came back to haunt us with a hat trick for Sheff U.

Hitchens, Peter McP and Bobby Thomson all finished with 20ish goals.
