Am pleased with Lambert how, quite unlike O'Neill, he's quick to rectify past errors and I think most of us were pleased when we saw the line up.
Bannan and Ireland do give the ball away at times but my word do we look like a better team for having some good footballers in there.

Westwood is a very promising footballer and it makes you wonder why we haven't seen more of him. Was Delph dropped or injured? Hard to imagine Lambert picking him instead of those two. They were like our very own (much less good) Iniesta and Xavi today.

IF and it's still an if, we can get better towards the end of the season and stay clear of trouble, I get the feeling we could really grow over the next few seasons under Lambert. One window and he's already signed some very decent footballers for the future, with 3 or 4 behind him and with our new scout we could have a really proper team in the years to come.

Just have to maintain the optimism throughout our next few nasty fixtures and not revert to hoofball!

As some of us said early on, there will be a lot of ups and downs this season. In all competitions it's W5 D3 L5.
The team and Lambert will make mistakes as they are young and still learning. But ask yourself this, would you rather have Lambert who at least tries different things even if some of them fail, or the busted flush this is Pube "One shot on target" Head and his same old tactic week in week out. Even Saha coming on reminded me of when he used to bring on Carew/Heskey, even the timing of it was pretty much the same.

As some of us said early on, there will be a lot of ups and downs this season.

Who are these elite few?  Who genuinely didn't think there would be ups and downs?  Or expected that we'd somehow cut a swathe through the division?

Some of us expected a few more ups than downs, that's all.   And didn't envisage getting hammered away to a struggling side like Southampton, and outplayed at home to Norwich.

Today was good -and much needed.   But not many teams will concede the space Martinoneillssunderland did to us, enabling our midfield to have one of it's easier afternoons. 

We will face far sterner challenges than that, even just to give us the 7/8 more victories we'll need to ensure survival. But hopefully we have some forward momentum now, and we don't fall back, as we did after the Swansea game.   Winning and remaining in 17th place is a bit of a pisser, mind.

Easy enough to check who hasn't gone all Rita Hayworth whenever we haven't won and hasn't predicted Benteke is the new Heskey or relegated us after 8 games. My point is that it's impossible to judge either Lambert or the team yet.

And yes, it's a big pisser that there isn't the psychological boost of moving up the league a few places.
