They will but not until the last week when options for agents, players and clubs begin to really narrow.

That Nursey article is distressingly transfer news free. Thats the only thing fans are concerned about, nobody is banking on Nzogbia to have a great run of form, that kind of thing exists only in Nurseys mind and possibly the clubs. We need new players, these dogs wont hunt.

In fairness, put a top centre half, top centre mid and good left back into our side and we will be fine. So he is right in a way. It is getting them.

Not sure he'll buy a centre half if funds are very limited. With papermache ron and Dunne on the comeback trail, he may decide elsewhere takes priority.

Fair if you can be sure of their fitness, but would you risk it? Last game, you need a point, would you trust Baker and Clark to see you through.

well i wouldn't, but Lambert may not have much choice. We're all guessing on what sort of funds are available and what sort of quality you can get in.  Three good quality players in those positions would be 10m or more imo. So less than that, do you buy 3 average players for 6m or risk it or buy 2 quality players who would make a difference and hope Ron and the pieman get fit?

OGS was my first choice and I am pretty confident that events have proved that he could not have made a much worse pig's ear than that which has been made of the first half of this season.   If that was knicker wetting, guilty as charged

Fair enough Brian. My point at the time was OGS had done nowt of note in a decent league and most of the enthusiasm was based on "Look, its OGS!". The guy sacked at wolves had a  managerial  record that dwarfs OGS and he was next to useless.

I don't think that Solskjaer had relegated his side the previous season.

I'm sure this is rubbish but this is a Skype chat with a mate (its a Skype room where we talk about betting offers and sports trading tactics which is why Hill's get a mention):

Hi Lads, just had a phone call from william hill. It was a lad from newcastle telling me i had a free £10 bet with them, when i started talking he said " it sounds like you are from my neck of the woods, he said are you from newcastle?",   " I said no i am from Sunderland" He said " are you a mackem?" i said "yes, does that mean i am not getting my free tenner lol,
[18:29:16] mackem6666: Jon this one is for you, this mag on the phone said the word in the toon is that darren bent is on his way, he then said " i dont know if he is good enough to play for us WTF ?? what planet are they on

Is the right answer.

The difference is OGS is a winner, he won everything as a player, and in his first manager job he's got 2 out of 2 for the league.  Like Brian, he was my first choice by a long way.  I was happy with Lambert once OGS was out of the running but I'm still disappointed.

Greg, my support for OGS was that it was an imaginative move.   It was a move filled with potential, potential for  success and potential for abject failure.    Lambert was chosen because he was regarded as a more conventional, safer option but he has delivered abject failure and we never had the chance of the success a radically different choice would have given us.

I compare it to a marriage.   Would you sooner have a wife with big tits and a pretty face who can't cook and is not too hot on housework or a wife with a flat chest and a face like Savo who can cook and is always cleaning the house.   Odds are that you would choose the latter because she is safer long term bet and you would still be eating nice dinners long after your dick had become a mere waterspout.

But what if I put it to you that you pass up on the one with big tits and a bum like Kylie Minogue and the one you marry is not only a flat chested minger but she can't cook and is a slut into the bargain.

My own highly personal view is that we never got to know what OGS might have done but we sure as f*ck know what Lambert has done.

And what league was he managing in? Bundesliga weren't it? A few steps up from OGS. TSM and Billy McNeil wouldn't have any relegations on their CV if they'd stayed in jockland i reckon

well i didn't think the shortlist was very inspiring including lambert, but that was the circumstances. You're not going to attract big names with Lerner's strategy. I realised the glamour aspect of appointing OGS, but i felt at the time we needed someone who had at least managed in a decent league. You're right though, he could be doing a better job now, it would be hard to do worse.

Rumour I read was they have offered Danny Simpson, Dan Gosling and cash to us for Bent. I can only assume the 'cash' is in the region of £24m.

If it wasnt for the fact that we need to keep bent to stay in the league I would be amused to see him go to Newcastle. The amount of bile he would get at the first Sunderland Derby would be amazing to watch.

Dunno. I wouldn't be surprised. Lambert obviously doesn't rate him and it would pay for our more immediate needs.
