I doubt we'd want to stump up for Lescott's wages. He's probably earning a fortune there.

If Warnock has been the stand out player at Bolton, and has his confidence back, then I'd bring him back when his loan ends and add some much needed experience to the squad.

Paul Faulkner made a veiled comment yesterday (on the reserves commentary) about senior players not taking responsibility last season and - whilst no one was mentioned - the start of a surname (with a 'W') was referenced.

I wouldn't say that he was hiding or not trying last season, just that he was shit!

Forrester was offered a place in Ajax's (prestigious) youth set up after his trial there but turned them down in favour of Brentford as his mother was seriously ill and Ajax couldn't commit to how often he'd get time off to go and visit her

I recall the stories about him being a Charlie Big Bollocks when he was here, but the above suggests he has matured a fair amount

From the Mirror:

"

Stoke and Aston Villa are leading a 30-club race to sign Crewe’s latest midfield starlet Luke Murphy.

The 23-year-old has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of Nick Powell who joined Manchester United in the summer.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has regularly had Murphy watched this season.

But Villa manager Paul Lambert, who is looking to youth, is looking to reunite Murphy with £2 million summer signing Ashley Westwood, who has starred in recent games.

Meanwhile, Nathan Baker believes Aston Villa have “come of age” after opting to play three at the back."

Should add that he's 6'2", which is why Stoke are mentioned, and chips in with the odd goal, 18 in 144 at Crewe.

I just think we need to continue to move on Andy and would therefore think the likes of Warnock have had their day.  He wouldn't fit into the current system as he wouldn't be able to play LCB or LWB, so wouldn't really add anything.  We need to try and get some money for him in January if possible, but if not get him out on loan until his contract expires in the summer.

Which of Zenit's black players are worth going after? They might be going cheap soon.

I know a guy who worked for the club until fairly recently and he says that the dressing room atmosphere last season was at times really toxic, because some of the players had cultivated a sort of blame culture, where people were singled out for mistakes they made in games and slated for it.  Supposedly, Warnock was the worst for this, particularly towards the younger players.

So, assuming my friend isnt bullshitting, Warnock is crap at football, and an absolute arsehole to boot!

Quote
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has warned rival clubs off making any bids for his rising young stars during the January transfer window.

Lambert has largely relied upon his rookies this season and his policy has been rewarded with a run of just two defeats in 11 games in all competitions.

Villa have also secured a place in the Capital One Cup semi-finals and produced an impressive performance to win 3-1 at Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.

Summer signings Christian Benteke, Matt Lowton and Ashley Westwoodhave all caught the eye, while Barry Bannan and Ciaran Clark have been regulars for Villa, and Lambert is determined to keep his promising youngsters.

"You can never stop people looking but, if you want to buy these players, you'll have to have a few quid," said Lambert.

"There is absolutely no chance we would be looking to sell. We are trying to build something here at Aston Villa and progress.

"There are young guys with a lot to look forward to in the future and it is up to us to try and keep building and get the squad improving.

"It's tough but as far as I am concerned nobody is going anywhere."

One of the blokes on the Guardian Football Weekly this week said he was talking to the Villa press officer at an event, and he told him that last year there was an atmosphere of "not my fault / not taking responsibility / don't care" which Lambert has got rid of. He mentioned a few names to the journo.

He was pushed to say who the press officer mentioned, and didn't give names other than to make it very clear Warnock was one of them.

If that's true, then there is no way back for him here, and for good reason.

As someone said to me a long time ago, give a footballer an excuse and he'll take it.

I wouldn't have Warnock anywhere near the team even if he was playing like Franz Beckenbauer now.  He'd instantly turn to shit he was as soon as he put a Villa shirt on.
