Once Carruthers has done his stints out on loan... He showed flashed last season he can come back and give us that creative flair i thought.

He is currently an Left sided Midfielder, do you think there is room for him to become S.Irelands Prodigy and move to a central role?  (obviously not by this Jan lol but didnt want to start a thread)

He nearly always plays centre-mid for the reserves.

How is selling our only proven goal scorer to save us from relegation a no brainer? Especially when nobody else is scoring. Madness. It's actually quite embarrassing that he isn't being played in any capacity, given our current situation

Don't mean to be argumentative, but have you seen Bent when he has featured this season?  He has scored a couple of goals, but just isn't suited to the current formation we are playing.  We need someone who will put themselves about, hold the ball up and win flick ons.  Bent doesn't do any of that, so I think Lambert's justified in his decision not to play him.

I thought Benteke holds the ball up and wins flicks on . He just needs a goal scorer to play with him and Gabby is not a gola scorer , DB should be given a go with Benteke.

As said before, Bent doesn't fit the system, if Bent could play out wide, help track back and press the ball. Then when we have the ball be his goal scoring self and run onto Benteke's work,  we'd be laughing, but if he wasn't so limited he wouldn't be playing For Aston Villa.

In our system it's Benteke or Bent.

I don't think it's as cut and dried as that Shrek, there should be times when we change things a bit and I would like to see bent given a run alongside benteke , I think lambert has probably decided not to persevere with bent and I find that quite sad considering he is a natural finisher whereas gabby has scored once in 30 league games.

I think Wiemann is a better finisher than Bent. Bent's movement and poaching ability is first rate, but Andy's got better technique. I'd like to perservere with him a bit. He'll score a few more. Half a yard from scoring the other night.

I think Weimann needs to do it and score regularly over a long period before being labelled as a better finisher  than bent - Weimann may have a bit more to his game in some ways but bent is still quality in front of goal.

Weimann looks the most likely to score in our current side I think but he's some way off being a better finisher than Bent. He's got the potential though.

I think as Monty is fond of pointing out, Bent is nothing special as a finisher. Where he excels is in his movement so that he doesn't need to be a great finisher.

Benteke and Bent can't play together, they both don't track back tackle or apply pressure, there is no way you can have 2 out of the 11 doing that.

We have to decide which one is most likely to help the team win, not the one more likely to score a goal or 2, but the team lose due to his presence putting the team under too much pressure.

Bent and Jones scored 35 goals between them for Sunderland as a pair. Who was tackling and applying pressure there?

Steed Malbranque, Lorik Cana, Keiran Richardson, Carlos Edwards, Grand Leadbitter, Andy Reid, Jordan Henderson & Teemu Tainio (for a very short while!)

They were largely a counter attacking team though which does not suit the current philosophy.

With regards to the Guardian, a different journalist was on their podcast (sounded french) and he was saying how good villa looked against Arsenal, comparing our play to B Dortmund.

Obviously you're joking, right?
