Looking back, 82/83 was one of the weirder Villa seasons. We lost the first 3, took a few pastings, dished out a few and still finished 6th. We also reached the FA Cup QF, the European Cup QF and won the Super Cup. And managed to lose 3 times to Notts County. Strange days indeed.
Did we really lose 3 times to county ?
I remember the opening game parading the European cup around then getting outplayed by them at home 1-3 ? So villa

We lost 3-1 to Sunderland on the opening game of the season after the European Cup parade, and we lost both legs of the early round of the League Cup to Notts County along with a 4-1 defeat away in the League to make up the 3 defeats.  Oddly enough, Notts did the double over us the previous season in the league but we beat them 6-0 away in the FA Cup, and in 83/84 they beat us 5-2 away.  Very strange!
[/quot

Beginning of a hoodoo that Howard Wilkinson developed over us and it seemed to go on for ages at Notts, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds.

Actually did we parade the div 1 title on the opening day then lose at home to Notts County ?
Seem to recall John Chidoze having a blinder for them?
A few of us transferred to Door D of the Trinity after many years on the Holte End, with this being our first match in there. 14 pint pre-match beer monsters took some acclimatisation in there, I can tell you.

Ipswich away, our first game of our last relegation season.
Got the shite kicked out of me in Portman road by those tractor boy bastards.
Got inside the ground, only to be boiled to death by their very nice asbestos roof above the away end terrace.
Shove your tractors up your arse.Shithole.

Ipswich fans were total tossers even long ago danlanza. My late brother says he has never seen Villa fans so mad as when they beat us in FA Cup in 1975, as they were singing songs about IRA after the Brum bombings a few months before. I went later on in the 70's and early 80's, absolute tossers

Was lovely to beat them to the league in 80/81. Went to all three games (we lost in FA Cup there) and we deserved better in all the games. All the press loved them for some unknown reason. Sir Ron had the better of Robson in the end, even if he didnt win the PR contest

I prefer Norwich to their Suffolk rivals. I remember that last day game in 1995 when we stayed up, they were already doomed. Both sets of fans sung "Chase out" in tribute to their hated Chairman. Also, sang "Were meet again," all good fun.

Had a fantastic day out at Norwich a few years ago. Locals were very friendly and welcoming. Their fans sang non stop and there was some mutual clapping of each other afterwards. A good time at the football was had by all.

My mate at university back in the mid 70's was a massive Ipswich fan and I can confirm that they used to sing I R A Ipswich Republican Army before the pub bombings took place.

Very likely. However, they should have stopped it out of respect, especially when they saw how disgusted we were by it.

West Ham in the 6th Rnd has got to be the biggest organised mob that we have come across in a supposedly segregated end. This was aided and abetted by crooked turnstile operators and, dare I say, the OB?

Can't argue with that.

Some of their mob , who stood up at the back suffered a bit certainly in 79 and in 81 .

one serving squaddie had to be dragged off them .

they sang it once in the witton end during the 1-2 game which ended very ugly and probably accounts for their muted celebration at the 2nd goal .

I would say that the Witton was 60% Villa due to the crazy lines for the Holte , the end of the game was very lairy as everyone coming out were deemed fair targets.

Afterwards in the crown and cushion everyone was a little downbeat , till Ron said "do you want to be against us"  the place exploded , afters and loads of singing the old songs .

I believed him then , it was such an uplift
