I don't get this Bent bashing. He worked bloody hard and created a number of chances.

We were bloody great yesterday. The Everton game still felt like a hangover from last season. About 65 minutes in yesterday the crowd turned and not in a bad way.

It was a like a great big collective light switch had been turned on and the fans, as one, all started to believe again.

In Lambert we trust.

We have to moan about somebody, we're Villa fans and it's in our psyche.

Have to say I find it amazing how we have to have a go at someone. After Newcastle, it was Holman, though I thought he was excellent then and again yesterday and the comparisons with Carrodus and Bremner are correct in the way they are real team players. Now it is Bent, who it seemed to me played a good role in a cracking team performance. Think credit has to go to the manager for keeping the same team that did so well at Newcastle. It must have given the likes of Lichaj, Bannan and Weimann a massive boost that he did this, great man management IMHO. The more I hear him speak and see the football, the more I am excited at the future of Aston Villa Football club with Paul Lambert at the helm.

The disappointing thing about yesterday was attendance. Swansea had a good turn out so 34 k was not good enough. VP does not look impressive  with half empty Trinity and Witton Lane.

Just been looking at photos of yesterdays game and it appears Vlaar was skipper. Was this for the whole game? Cant seem to be able to confirm it.

He was captain throughout. Did a great job aswell.
Yes he was skipper in real terms but I am not sure he should  try to be a right winger!

Witton Warrior, Des Bremner was never really cool lol. Always in peoples faces and great for the likes of Sir Dennis and Sid.

Just saw this luton - lol indeed!
Des had that hard-boiled look about him that was anything but cool.
Holman wants the ball, wants to drive the team forward, break things up - maybe better on the ball than Des but not as influential yet.

There were signs against Newcastle that Bent is trying to contribute more, and it continued yesterday to greater effect. It will be telling to see if he continues his impressive scoring stats hold up, because the way he used to play a one in two scoring ratio was really nothing special.

We were talking about this before the game and agreed that the damage done over the last couple of seasons will take quite a while to repair. We'll need a consistent run of good results at home to start tempting people back.

Holman= Des Bremner???
Holman = Des Bremner = Frank Carrodus
You are obviously of a certain age..like me!
Like me as well. As good as Des was he never made to Frank's level in my opinion and if Brett comes close to that we'll be ok.

Early days, but the signs are promising. Holman looks as if he will be a really good player for the club. The first game Des played he was absolute pants, thought Sir Ron had signed a dud. Geddis made his debut the same game and Mike Pejic was making home debut if I recall correctly

Just watched the game as recorded on Football First.

I thought Bent worked really hard, contrary to his reputation, dropped back and helped out an awful lot.

We played some exccellent stuff, we combined an urge to get the ball back as quickly as we can, with a willingness to try to play with the ball and keep it once we'd done that. This is going to take a long time to get right, but it is a definite good start.

I thought the entire team were excellent.

Big shout out for Brett Holman, who never stopped running, and is starting to remind me of James Milner, the one player of all those we've sold that we miss the most.

Also, Lowton looks more and more comfortable every game, as does Vlaar.

Bent did fuck all until Benteke came on. He needs to shape up, but I do accept he may need more time due to his injury lay off.

Oh and I'll praise Ireland as well, didn't quite work creatively but he worked incredibly hard.

FFS he was abysmal.  Gave the ball away in key areas, didn't create a jot and had one limp effort of a shot.  Total waste of space and the one negative in an otherwise very positive day.

That's very harsh IMO.  Not a lot came off for him on the ball but off it he was fine.  Got himself in decent positions and pressed Swansea high up the pitch along with the rest of the team.

There is somewhere between being excellent and abysmal.

Also, I think The Zog did OK when he came on.  Be interesting to see if he can play the more central role, as we don't seem to be playing with wingers under Lambert.  He'll have to consistently work hard off the ball to get near the team as well.

I agree.
He looked 10 times better once Benteke came on.
I found him very frustrating to watch...but not half as frustrating as Stephen Ireland.
He was embarrassing at times. I don't think I have ever seen a player get brushed aside so easily.
He needs to grow a pair and and a bit of steel to his play.  Bloody lightweight.

On Match of the Day I see they played You'll Never Walk Alone and did an applause before the game for the 96 today at Reading, did we do something similar yesterday?
