But for Benteke missing a near-open goal and a brilliant clearing header from Tate he would have made three goals yesterday.

Not bad for a player who can't do anything but score tap-ins.

I've always found that to be a myth anyway.
He's more than capable of holding the ball up, laying the ball off and working hard outside the box.

I thought everyone worked hard yesterday even some who had a little off day worked their claret and blue bollocks off.

Bent was great yesterday , can't believe people still moaning after  that win and the performance. Fickle comes to mind.

The squad is now looking a lot better , all hungry players.

And the manager will work his magic on Albrighton , Delph , Bennett and Gardner in the future too.

Lambert is a top manager and I am so happy he is with us.   I feel good again.

Good point about Albrighton. It will be interesting to see how Mr Lambert and his coaching staff improve him. Could be a very effective team player this season

I thought Bent was great as well yesterday, he covered more ground than he normally does and really did work hard but i'm not sure we're getting the best out of him in that kind of role. We need him in the box doing what he does best and maybe over time we'll see Benteke do the donkey work as it were.

Just been looking at photos of yesterdays game and it appears Vlaar was skipper. Was this for the whole game? Cant seem to be able to confirm it.

No, they switched at points during the game between Bent, Barry and Ron.

Edit- sorry, I'm being a cock. Yes, The Concrete One is the new team captain.

I didn't see any of the game yesterday due to my inconsiderate sister getting married and asking me to be an usher. Having scanned through the match thread today it seems that this was a very encouraging performance, coupled with a clean sheet and 2 goals from newbies (one of which was a screamer by all accounts). Lets just hope they build on this with another win next Saturday.

(I've got a sneaky feeling we'll turn Citeh over in the cup too).

I am definitely in the Bent played well yeaterday camp. I thought he put a good shift in and had some deft little touches.

Same here, thought it was the most complete performance he's put in in ages.  Would have been nice to cap it with a goal, but if the rest of the team is creating chances and scoring, who cares?

Maybe, but he never looked remotely like scoring, which is his primary role, we have players that can link up play a lot better.

My gripe I've had with Bent is, if he isn't scoring, he isn't contributing. I admit he was better yesterday, BUT surely The team would benifit by replacing him with Benteke, because Weimann was a much greater threat.

I'm not saying give up on Bent, but he and Ireland were our poorest players yesterday and I would replace both with Benteke and Westwood for Southampton.

A couple more winning performances like that and we should see them creep up towards 38k+ which would be great.

I don't get this Bent bashing. He worked bloody hard and created a number of chances.

We were bloody great yesterday. The Everton game still felt like a hangover from last season. About 65 minutes in yesterday the crowd turned and not in a bad way.

It was a like a great big collective light switch had been turned on and the fans, as one, all started to believe again.

In Lambert we trust.
