Fully deserved and long overdue victory. Great pressing without the ball and we should have wrapped it up a lot earlier in the second half.
Positives - the trio of Vlaar (my MOTM), Clark and Guzan. Good debut from Benteke and good to get off the mark in the first game. Bannan improved after the break and was more patient on the ball.

Negatives - didnt think our full backs defended well in the second half. Hernandez exploited Lowton a good bit. Ireland and Holman worked very hard but gave the ball away a lot. Bent was very poor though and Gabby might well be pushing for a start up with Benteke the next day.

Luke Moore to be fair caused us problems when he came on and had a great chance to equalise late on. But 3 points thankfully and a clean sheet to boot.

With all the stacks of cash we have pissed up the wall over the years, you give a man with a brain a pittance of money and within 3 months he turns this club around.

God Bless you Paul Lambert.  :)

I'm not sure he's had a pittance, but he has done very well.

I'm comparing to what the common new manager gets in the summer transfer window to spend. Certainly not wisely springs to mind with some of them

Brilliant display, Holman and Weimann didn't stop running and emphasised Bent and Ireland's lack of workrate today. But I think it was just a bad day in the office and Benteke is going to make a massive difference. He is like a John Carew in his prime.

Guzan solid and looking like a top keeper.

It's so nice to leave Villa park in a good mood again.

I still remember Carlton Cole on debut was outstanding, so don't want to over cook Benteke, but he looks like just what we need, and potentially a real star in this league. Big hard buggers with skill prosper in the premier league, so he could be a master stroke.

Delighted for Lowton to get a goal and Vlaar and Clark looked good.

Guzan makes a huge difference to our back line though, simply through presence. Given will struggle to get back in baring an injury.

I thought we were pretty good in the first half, and absolutely excellent in the second Swansea really struggled to cope with our pressing, which we managed to sustain for the whole game. I also really like the option of having some combination of gabby, benteke, Weimann, nzogbia to come on for the last 25 minutes when the game is opened up a bit. Snakes us look dangerous.

Stand out players for me were guzan, vlaar, lowton, lichaj, bannan (second half) and holman.plus benteke when he came on.

My first game at VP this season,so first chance to see most of the new boys. Rode our luck a little in first half. Guzan was brilliant, that second save in the first half was pure class.

Impressed with the new boys, sometimes Holmans decision making isn't too good, but his closing down and effort can't be questioned. Lowton was impressive, loves to get forward,El Ahmadi was really good, keeps thing ticking over.

Second half we got a lot closer to them, and we played some good stuff, thought their guy handled it on the line. Benteke looks a bruser, everything stuck to him, deserved his goal, missed a sitter and Bent took a header of his head.

Plenty of promise and lots to build on.UTV

Great day. All of a sudden we've got potential 'cult heroes' springing up all over the shop! Guzan reminds me of Bosnich, great reflexes but also a calm authority in the penalty area. Concrete Ron is composed, strong and reads the game extremely well. Brett Holman's commitment is outstanding, never stops running and breaks up play brilliantly. Finally Benteke caused them huge problems at the end, he looks like he can move for a big guy, showed some classy touches and certainly wasn't short of confidence for a 21 year old making his debut.

Sure it's a long season ahead and we shouldn't get carried away, but Lambert has really injected some life into the team with these players, and the ones we already had are looking better as a result. I'm really optimistic and hopefully we'll see the stay away fans come flocking back now.

I don't think we particularly rode our luck as such, they had a couple of chances but we dominated overall and particularly in the second half.

Guzan didn't put a foot wrong, Holman worked his socks off and Benteke looks quality. Id say currently Bent's place is more under threat than Weimann's.

I thought we started slowly and were giving them too much space but once we started pressing them we got well on top.

Holman has an amazing amount of energy and that seemed to lift the rest of the team, Bent did a lot of work outside the box and worked his socks off.

I loved the run up the wing from Vlaar, not sure the manager will love it so much but it was good to see something different from a centre half.

Bentenke took his goal well and scared the life out of Swansea's defence.

Swansea had their chances too and kept plugging away even when 2-0 down, which was why it was such an entertaining game, Swansea weren't shy about getting forward.

Good result and great peformance.
