Player of the Tour award must go to Leigh Halfpenny

A lot of pundits owe Warren Gatland an apology

Yes, pleased for him after every man and his dog criticised him during the week.

Brilliant result, just back from the pub where the atmosphere was fantastic (despite a few amateur refs who never knwo the rules and who keep shouting out their incorrect interpretation of them all the way through, particularly as the mid morning drinking kicks in). Hats off to Gatland who made some big calls and who would have been panned had we lost. As it it, the omission of O'Driscoll etc will be completely forgotten. Way it goes I guess. Amazing too to see what people can put away in terms of food at 11.30am in the morning!

I'd guess I'm one that will be high on the list there but I don't think I need to retract anything.  I still think he took the safe option of playing the players he knows in the way he knows and I still think the squad could've been much stronger if he'd not focused so much on picking players for a single game plan.

That said, today was a very good performance and the team played out his game plan very well.  I've likened him to mon a lot and I stand by that, when everything falls into place you get a great performance like today.

Who was it who was saying Gatland had picked the wrong squad regardless of the result?

Nothing further to add.

I am another one who has slated Gatland and it would be churlish to deny him any praise now.  He made some ballsy calls and the end result has justified the means.  I can't say I enjoyed much of the tour and indeed until the last 20 or so mins today, I thought Australia played most of the attractive rugby.  That said the last 20 the Lions totally overpowered them and came away with the right result.

I can't think of any better description of Gatland than Paul E's one of likening him to MON, absolutely perfect.  He appears to just rely on power and physicality and for a winger such as George North to be under used as he has on this tour is tantamount to criminal.  Very pleased however for Alun Wynn-Jones and Halfpenny who have been major successes in this series.

From an England point of view I think it is crucial that we keep Corbisiero fit and firing because he will make our pack so much better than it was for instance in Cardiff in March.  I think also Farrell has probably developed as a player and person on the tour but really hope Burns starts the Autumns.

From a Northern Hemisphere point of view it is great that we have finally won a series and hopefully all the home countries will get a boost, but obviously Wales the most as they had the majority of players.

Roll on November !!!

We are a better team than Australia. If gatland hadn't picked the wrong team - O'driscoll - in the 1st two games and have bad luck with injuries the3rdtest result would, and should, have been seen before the final test. Gatland got lucky.

New Zealand completely tore the Aussies apart yesterday. The scoreline ended up being very flattering for the Aussies.

Its looking very difficult to stop them at the next WC
