Holman's non-challenge for the goal looked a bit like Vlaar's against Everton. Very much a 'I don't mind you shooting from there' feel about it.

Lack of premier league experience perhaps.

Gota agree with that but also think you can't take anything away from the goal it was special

I think he thought Ben Arfa was on his weaker foot
even pardew after the match commented how it was his weak foot, so if you are showing an opponent onto his weaker foot, how can you anticipate that finish. it was an unbelievable goal!

Hard working performance, we will be okay if we keep that workrate up for the rest of the season.
Anyone else think the referee was poor and the lino who  let Newcastle play on when the ball was a foot out of play.

we have 1 point from 3 games, we were ripped apart by Everton last week,

yet i am feeling really happy and confident we are on the right track with Lambert, he is getting the side to play his way, and most of us are enjoying it because we believe in time results will get better and better,
i still think we will be unpredictable and struggle in games, but we are heading in the right direction, the manager has a vision, a plan, and its a long time since we could be positive about that.

What about that Gutierrez booking?  He should have had a red for that it was so openly blatant.

That's a bloody good point, and we were close to getting all 3. (Honest, positive words from Mr Pardew!)
Confidence boosted!

We started better, but in MON/Randy's first season, we only secured our survival with a couple of games to go, away at Blackburn (iirc). I think the same will happen here. We'll finish 10-14th but win most of the last half a dozen or so (on way to the FA Cup Final of course....).

Was a shame for Holman. He took a gamble and basically said "go on son, try it." Arfa's strike was fucking brilliant though. He's brilliant with both feet. Cracking player but a pain in the ass, because you'll get games where he's lazy, can't be arsed or just tries to be a bit too fancy, too often. Sadly we got hit by his one moment of brilliance in the game and it was goal. Holman probably should have closed him down, if only because he'd been at just about every opposition player with the ball in his general area for 95 minutes. The one time he wasn't snapping at someones ankle, and it's spanked in the back of the net. That's football though.

Guzan immense. I really think he's gonna be special. Our new Bosnich. He's a really strong character. Commanding, confident, decisive. The way Lambert picks the side is on merit, Goose knows it and will do his best to keep his place. To have Shay Given on the bench is pretty good too.

I missed it all today but reading this it seems it was a strong hard working and enjoyable to watch performance which is good to hear. It all sounds very positive and a result I didn't expect. Well done to them all.

There does seem mixed reviews on here about Holman, from man of the match, involved in everything and reviews to lazy and anonymous. I saw an interview from Lambert a minute ago, he seems very positive about the game and said we worked extremely hard. I'll look forward to seeing it.

Good early signs of what's coming in my opinion. We'll be more effective and threatening in a month or so to go with the better ball retention and high workrate.
The new signings will help that too, as well as Gabby and Albrighton getting back to full fitness.
