How much was the actual transfer fee?

Supposedly around £2.75m.

Boro will receive £3m up front, with the fee rising in instalments for every 15 senior games he plays to a maximum of £4.25m. The Teessiders have also insisted on the inclusion of a sell-on clause.

That's a good deal for Boro. £4.25m isn't peanuts for an unproven full back. Fingers crossed he's up to it.

If its true that they insisted on a sell-on clause they must think highly of him and think that he will go places.

The only way they'll get the full amount is if he plays the equivalent of two full seasons. If he does that it'll be a bargain.

Quote from Joe Bennett on the official site talking about his sole appearance in the Premier League for Boro:

"I only made one appearance and then we got relegated that season. I am just looking forward to it again and can't wait to get going."

I hope it's the first bit and not the second that he's looking forward to.

I hope you are a star in the making and make us forget all about that last left-sided prick we got from Middlesborough...

As a person he is a prick, but we pretty much doubled our money on him.
I think we should celebrate Downing as we made a killing on him.  We need to sell more average players for 20m in my opinion.

Not convinced. Seems to be a bit of a weak link.

He should have been sent off with two yellows yesterday but, then again, that was not a penalty; the foul began outside the area. So, Hughton had no real reason to moan, on the 'even out' rule. JB is flakey when defending, for sure, but then he is very young and slight of physique. He links and crosses well. He should improve. I'd like us to sign a seasoned centre back e.g. Lescott in the summer and use Baker or Clark at LB. Lambert won't do either.

Other teams see him as our weak point. That said, he has improved a lot in the past few games. He has a lot of potential but I think we should slot Clark in at left back for the next game (if fit). Clark is no world beater (yet) but I feel we would be a bit more solid defensively with him in for Bennett.

I like Bennett , i think he offers a lot going forward but he does need to work on his defensive game a bit and could do with beefing up a bit like gabby did - yesterday he had a bad day and i agree could well have got another red.
