I guess it's from 1983. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll record it.

Is that the one where Watford had to play with black tape over their sponsors?

Could well be, sounds about the right era. It's definitely the 1983 one according to the synopsis.

I was convinced we were going to win it that year.

I was at that game and remember the black tape over their sponsors (Iveco?) as they weren't expecting the game to be televised. Didn't we go out of two quarter finals in the same week that year to Arsenal and Juventus?

Just watched it Sun morning. Cowans goal was magnificent, the Trinity Stand was magnificent, the kit was superlative.

But did you notice how short and tight Gerry Armstrongs shorts were when he came on as sub for Watford. Its a miracle how they walked let alone played football in the 80s. Did you also notice the hoardings. Chequer bitter and Jager lager god they were terrible brands for Davenports......still thats the type of football I want to see next season win or lose.

I watched it last night, in an advanced state of refreshment. I was quite misty eyed at the thought that this was almost 30 years ago. Fantastic to see again.
I remember watching the game from the Trinity and feeling certain that our name was on the cup. Cowans' run, control, shimmy round Steve Sherwood and his finish were all world class. And Tony Morley making a chimp out of Pat Rice.
I love the camera angle from the North Stand - when they show replays of goals from that camera, you can always see Villa fans lifting their arms up to celebrate.

Cue another last minute Villa defeat. And further down the highlights line that year another last minute defeat against Luton.

Watched this Saturday night in bed. The kit was just awesome......in fact I'm going to get the replica because of this.

I was in the Trinity back then, and I had a flashback of Sids goal before it came on the telly from the angle I saw it live. Isn't it odd how television memories of goals overtake the original memory of seeing it live, but the good ones linger.

Just vaguely thinking:

I can see Savo's at Wembley, I was right behind it.
Young's at Everton, I bruised the fxxx out my shins, on those bloody wooden seats when it went in.
Graydon's at Wembley even now, and I was only 8. That one brings a tear to my eye almost, I was with my late Dad and Grandad.
Ormo's at Spurs would have hit me in the face if the net hadn't stopped it, and I can remember flinching before celebrating.
Jochums somewhere in Spain, we all went proper mental. It was the first european away goal for a while.

and for example,

I can't remember Cahills against blues, maybe because I watched it loads of time on TV within hours of seeing it. In fact I cant even remember where I was in the ground, but I can remember JPA's miss against them before they scored the late equaliser in an earlier game.

Sometime television gets it wrong though;

I can remember going barmy on the Holte when Deano scored against Ipswich and the fact is that the television replays are wrong..... it was actually from the halfway line. Ditto Chris Nichol against Everton, but that was from the edge of our box.

I always think that between '82 and '85 we were very strong at home but not away. Also in those years Watford and Luton away were bogey sides. Then between '85 and '87 we were crap home and away and everyone was a bogey side for us. Except Coventry.
