Sorry to go off at a tangent but this thread is as suitable as any for my exasperation.

I noted in today's Mirror that James Nursey is still fanning the dying flames of his cauldron of hate assessment of Villa fans.   Today it is the customary couple of column centimetres of Villa coverage and, yes you guessed it it carries a picture of McLeish and a mini headline reference to the Big Eck nickname they love so much and which we never uttered.   It carries the phrase "so-called negativity" of our ex manager and the whole slant of the piece is that McLeish was a martyr.   One sentence is given to our new manager's desire to see better football.

Now McLeish is gone the journalists are too bone idle to actually report the facts and continue to regurgitate the Villa fans hate everybody lies.

The same paper last week had Savage commenting that not only would we be fighting relegation again next season but so would Norwich.   The owners of The Mirror should take a long hard look at how skewed and provocative journalism affects their sales.   How can you take seriously a newspaper which regards Savage as a football pundit of any provenance?

My wife still buys the Mirror, I ask why?  Come the weekend and I'm on my way to the shops she asks me to get it for her.  I say "No", an argument ensues. I end up getting it 'cos I like sex.

Sorry, but only ****** take notice of papers like The Mirror and papers of this ilk.

Fortunately, I don't take notice of ******, and I suggest you do the same.

Maybe Savage things we'd be better sticking with Mcleish and getting Karl Henry in?  Sorry but that level of stupidity is really funny.

Did we have those Recaro seats? I can't remember ever noticing them to be honest. They certainly weren't there when I went on the stadium tour during pubeheads first season.

I went on the Villa Park tour a few years ago and we did have the Recaro seats but MON got rid of them as he wanted the subs to be as uncomfortable as possible so they tried harder in training to make the 1st team.

It's a good idea, shame he never used any subs.

There is some good writing about clubs such as ours, you have to dig around to find it. Avoiding the tabloids altogether is a good start, the headline articles in the broadsheets tend to follow the tabloids in concentrating on the top clubs or just tossing off an ill thought out and poorly researched piece on other teams. But go online and you find some excellent stuff, for every Paul Hayward and his utter ignorance of anything sub 'Arry, there will be a a lesser name who has taken the time and effort to understand his subject.

And if you give your valuable time to the likes of Savage, Quinn, Gough et al you deserve everything you get.

I listened to Nursey on Talksport the other night and he had no problem at all in throwing in a few subtle digs re. Lambert.  Stuff along the lines of: "He's very ambitious, if he does well at Villa he will go to a big club."  It came within the context of him talking about Lambert and Rodgers and, to be honest, it was a totally unnecessary thing for him to say and it actually took the host by surprise.

I've followed Nursey fairly closely over the past couple of years or so and he really does seem to try and play the crowd.  He strikes me as being a journalist very much in the Bill Howell mould.  I wouldn't allow him within a mile of Villa Park to be honest as I think he views unsettling the club and our fans as fair sport.

The Mirror is a shit rag.  I don't even buy it if I am desperate for a newspaper when I'm abroad on holiday.  For every ONE thing that James Nursery might get correct about Aston Villa, you can bet your arse that he'll get at least the next thirty things completely wrong.  As for the journalists who continue to use the bollocks excuse that I hated TSM because of his Birmingham City connections, I simply look at the league table and the official records for last season.  They are clueless wankers.  We're right, they're wrong. Simples.

You could just write Nursey off as smarmy wanker who writes for a pointless rag that no one in their right mind would make an effort to buy.

Slightly off topic, but why do people still buy newspapers if they have the internet?

As for the Mirror, it had a short period of being a decent paper around  '9/11'.  John Pilger was an interesting read and a brave choice for a mainstream tabloid.  But that didn't last too long and the last time I read it was about 10 years ago.  File under 'shite' along with Murdoch's empire.

Outside of the BBC The Guardian is the only news media I have some element of trust in these days and even they have an increasing agenda.

I've never liked James Nursey, i just think he's a very poor journalist. Most of us on here could do a better job than what he does. Brian Woolnough comes a very close second to him though.
