Honestly, who gives a shit how many people were there to shout and welcome him? They announced it the day before, and did so on the OS, and it was passed forward on here.

Maybe people don't spend their entire lives on those sites, and had jobs to go to? MON's arrival was on a Friday evening, IIRC.

There were about 80 or so as a sort of 'Welcome to VP' fan greeting as he arrived.

that all? Were things really worse post O'Leary to herald the arrival of MON? This year was as low as I can recall in many a year. It's a little disappointing that 500 or so numpty's can make it down there to protest McLeish but only 80 or so can go down to celebrate the removal of the same man and welcome in the new bloke.

ps. fair play to those people who made it down there

It was a pissing Press Conference! I wouldn't go down there if it was a press conference to announce the arrival of Lionel Messi, let alone Paul Lambert.
I will be at the games though, starting with Burton.
I'm a football fan not a marketing tool (although the boundaries are becoming more blurred as each year goes by).

I was one of the 80 or so. Some of us got there before 1230 and we caught a glimpse for about a minute at quarter to 1. Then they screened the press conference on the car park Big TV. We then had to wait outside with only the odd passing press men giving us any idea when he was due out again. It rained hard at least twice. He finally re-emerged at about 330pm.

A lot of people came down for 1pm and waited around and had to leave before seeing him. I was surprised that with the club asking people to come down, there wasn't more of an organised showing. He could have easily popped out after the main conference and before the press 1-2-1 for 10 -15 mins.

Edit: There was chanting of "We've got our Villa back" on the second appearance and he did sign all autographs offered.

That's plenty.

why is that plenty Damon? 80 is crap when like I said so many more found time to protest TSM's arrival. I absolutely appreciate that people have jobs to go back to etc, but seemingly people found the time and energy to protest. I suppose it's not a big deal and hopefully people start buying tickets etc, but we didn't do ourselves any favours last summer with events that made it on to TV. Today would have been a good opportunity to set some of that right.

IIRC the OVM protest started at 6pm so would make it a bit easier for more to attend.

Yeh, so would I. I'd fly back for that!

Look, I said it wasn't a big deal in one of my posts, but 80 is lame considering what this appointment represents and how thoroughly miserable last season was. And especially the crescendo of outrage at TSM and everything he represented at the end. Ultimately, more than anything I hope it brings people into the club to buy season tickets again because that number was looking really bad at one point. The club in firing TSM and appointing Lambert have given us what we wanted in pretty quick order. Lots to do off course but hopefully it has restored some of the faith that has been lost.

Maybe but considering the timing and publicity (or lack of), not to mention the weather, it's probably not worth making a big deal of.  Lunchtime on the day after a bank holiday is probably the most awkward time it could be held.

I suppose the Voice of all Villa Supporters will be there somewhere, in the company of the same tired faces that wheel themselves out at every change of management / board.

Yes they are good old sort.  Usually good for a cup of tea and biscuits and may be a G&T if they hang around long enough and yes very compliant they are!

Are you Jedi?

I made it over after umming and arring, saw him arrive, watched conference on the screen, and waited around until just gone 2 when hunger (the bowl of cereal at 9am had worn off) and trying to hide from the rain got the better of me and I made a run for Witton to get the train back to new street.

Everyone who was down at vp seemed pretty positive about Lambert, and what he said in the conference strikes the right chords for his first interview.

Oh and Collymore was down there too, he sounded happy about Lambert getting the job.

Its been a long time since i felt this positive about Villa - perhaps since 2002 when i left Blighty for US. I can see myself booking weekends home to see the team - thats how great i think this appointment might be. MON was also a good appt but I always worried he was not a great tactician - whereas with PL I think we have for the first time since perhaps SBL a genuine football guy - feel the tingle back - wonderful!

You know the score as well as I do. These are the so called fan reps and Club can say that they were there so we do keep in touch with our fans and the boys/girls will get invited again for being nice.

I wouldn't read too much into the numbers.
When MON was arriving I had just got in the car to come home from work when I heard on the radio that they were letting fans into The North Stand to welcome him, so I just went over to Villa Park on a whim. It was fun.
With the protest last year I had absolutely no intention of going, but somehow drove into the middle of it on the way home from work. Not so much fun.
Today - not only was it in the middle of the working day, but it was in the middle of a working day preceded by 4 days off - so no opportunity even to book some time out of work, if you were so inclined.
I can see why the club waited till today for the press conference, but if they had wanted serious numbers to turn out for Lambert, they needed to have the press conference this evening - about 6 - then more people would have popped along on their way out of work. Having said that it was absolutely pissing down at that point so maybe not!

If anyone watched the WM coverage, the camera woman was about 5 ft nothing so the camera is always pointing up at the fans. It doesn't help that the reporter Ben is 6ft.
